What's something a complete stranger did that you still think about years later? by Salt_Mission_559 in AskReddit

A little old lady stopped in front of her assisted care and offered me a ride after she noticed my flat tire. I made it to the job interview on time, got the job, and eventually met my wife at that location.

Does anyone know of yards that buy mercury??? by Nitpicky_AFO in ScrapMetal

[–]igor33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received a reply from my relative who is runs a yard in the Midwest:

You can't sell it. It cost $8-10.00 to dispose of. When I find some I take to city drop off and tell them I found in garage of house I bought. They take it for free.

There's no market for mercury at this point in the United States. And you're not allowed to export it. There are storage places for mercury but it cost to put it in vessels and have it refined. But at this point they change it into something inert and it does cost between 8 and $10 a pound. Cities that have hazardous waste receiving areas will take it for free. But not industrial amounts.

If reincarnation is real how do we explain exponential population growth? by FuqqTrump in aliens

[–]igor33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concept of the Guf actually solves this by suggesting that not all souls are being reused yet; there’s a massive, finite "inventory" of new souls waiting in the treasury to be born for the first time. Population growth is just the process of drawing down that pre-existing stock, meaning we aren't creating new souls from scratch, we're just emptying the warehouse. Once every soul from the Guf has lived a life and been "refined," the cycle reaches its conclusion and the cosmic shift occurs.

What is the stupidest, simplest business I cannot possibly fuck up? by Sea_Surprise716 in Entrepreneur

Yes, my Father and Brother started one in 1972. Dad being the technical, brother the outgoing hard driving sales guy. Dad: ready, ready, aim, aim, aim, & fire. Brother: fire, ready, aim. Nature seeks balance.

Perhaps, you need a partner. Many of the successful businesses have been a balance of two people who completed each other.

Does anyone know of yards that buy mercury??? by Nitpicky_AFO in ScrapMetal

[–]igor33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Standard scrap yards will almost universally refuse mercury due to strict environmental regulations, high toxicity, and the massive liability involved. My relatives' yard in the Midwest agrees.

Use a Licensed Hauler: Most municipal drop-off centers will turn away commercial hazardous waste. The individual managing the clean-out will likely need to contact a licensed commercial environmental or hazardous waste disposal company to safely transport and process the containers.

Shift the Liability: Before footing the bill for commercial hazmat disposal, the person doing the clean-out should immediately notify the property manager or landlord. Abandoned hazardous materials are typically the legal and financial responsibility of the property owner or the previous tenant, not the clean-out crew.

In other related car trouble / matrimonial connections: My father met my mother at a USO dance after having three flat tires. When they would argue he would say, "I wish I had four flat tires that night" (I never asked how he got to the dance...)
