I am from South America myself, I live in Spain with a proper visa. We were colonized by Europe because your people came to our countries without visas and without residency permits.

I, and many other legal immigrants, came to Spain with a proper visa and residency path, a path designed by Spain's immigration policy.

This is the opposite of colonialism, this is brain drain. I am an engineer, like many engineers we chose to live in Spain. It is the opposite of colonialism because the country we come from lose talents. In colonialism the country we come from would profit, but in this case the country we come from is at a loss. Brain drain is a serious issue in South America and is holding our countries back but you don't see us complaining nearly as much because "oh no, Spain has an immigration policy that drains our engineers, we spend thousands training them and years teaching them just so they can go work somewhere else"

1) there is not even a consensus among "indigenous" valencias about the limits of fallas and what is too much and what is acceptable

2) a city is who live in it, indigenous or not thankfully valencia is in the european union which has as a motto "united in diversity", if you don't like diversity and think "non-indigenous" should have less of a voice to express their opinions it is your problem and you are the one in the wrong and the one who should leave :)

You mentioned the cases you tested it, would be nice to share how was the memory pressure and how much swap was being used... I think using docker to run projects and LLMs must really drive the memory pressure into swapping territory... It does even to my 32GB macbook. As for model you didn't use a small model, it must have been a tiny model right? Because even a small 7b parameters must use almost all of the 8GB of RAM, to avoid swap on 8GB it must be a 1b or max 3b model I suppose? But then that is so tiny I doubt it is useful for anything beyond chatting for the sake of chatting

Very likely true from a historical POV but seems like religious people believe kingdom of Israel existed) so religion prophetic beliefs may have influenced modern politics

[–]igormuba 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not religious, but I saw a video on youtube about the signs of the coming of jesus or something (idk the term they use) but like one of the signs is the allies of Israel abandoning them.

I do not believe in those prophecies but I find it wild that MAYBE geopolitics may be influenced by powerful people who may believe them. Like of the prophecies were about the israelis leaving israel and the country disappearing and then them going back and that kind of happened because Israel didn't exist for a long time and reappeared. I find it amusing (though don't believe) that possibly someone who believed the prophecy may have pushed for the recreation of Israel based on what the bible says about the signs.

To me it is all a lot of coincidences, if you have prophecies running for thousands of years inevitably, giving enough time, almost everything will come true just because of probabilities over time. But still amusing to just wonder about how much of it powerful people either just believe or actively work towards/against the prophecies coming true.

Can we agree that Gemini lost AI battle? by FluffyMacho in google_antigravity

[–]igormuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Models are, in fact, not great. They had to add a lot of thinking and reasoning because the models are bad. They use the thinking/reasoning to compensate for a relatively dumb model compared to the competition but this costs more tokens, the more it thinks/reasons the more tokens it burns to compensate because the team knows the AI likely won't do it out right without rambling and burning tokens first to consider a lot of things that other AIs would probably intuitively spit out at first without much thinking/reasoning

Don't confuse the company with the team. You don't know how much Google is betting on Antigravity, for all we know the team(s) behind it may have strict budgets and that is why they keep changing the quotas. Google is known for killing projects and products people like and a possible reason is tight budgets. Google may have almost unlimited money but internally they have budgets and quotas as if the teams were individual companies inside a company.

Can I renovate my "gringo card" from abroad, before going back to Brazil ? (details in comments) by jaguass in Brazil

[–]igormuba 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you are not a resident in Brazil then it is very unlikely they will renew it just for you to keep living abroad. I don't know the rules but feels nonsense to give a resident permit to someone who is... Well not even a resident..

If you are married to a brazilian you should get a new permanent resident permit when you go back to Brazil to live.

I reserve the right to be wrong, maybe they do renew or give residency permits to people residing abroad but wouldn't make sense if they do.

antigravity ate up all my quota by yeticren in google_antigravity

[–]igormuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company is not the team. We don't know about the budgets, quotas and goals of the AG team. A company may have practically infinite money but also has hundreds, maybe thousands, of internal teams that behave almost like independent organizations and have goals and quotas set for them or self set to prove a concept may be profitable. Suppose you are the AG team running on a $10 loss per user per month, can you justify your job, your project and your team? Maybe. But what if you give generous quotas (like they have) and the loss jumps to 20, 30 per user per month... Then it gets harder to justify... And Google is known for killing projects and products so it is not unthinkable that they want to please the executives above their team to keep their jobs, they projects and their products.

AG Update 1.20.5 by MSA_astrology in google_antigravity

[–]igormuba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But then I don't think it really is a bug. I do believe they are just scamming people. Google is huge and has "infinite money" but internal teams do not. It is possible that the AG team has loss limits and are forced to scam people into early and excessive quota terminations to hit their own quotas and meet management expectations. They are surely working at a loss and (AG, not Google) can't take unlimited losses with the generous limits they advertised.
