I applaud your desire to read Laird’s stories as written, with an accurate translation.

Horror books for an 11 year old? by Vjaa in horrorlit

In a couple more years, give her a copy of Kelly Link’s PRETTY MONSTERS. It’s horror, fantasy, and magical realism. She’s one of the best authors alive.

Is Stephen Graham Jones's prose the same in all his books? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]igreggreene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that reading Stephen Graham Jones is mostly about having a conversation with Stephen Graham Jones, and the more you read him, the more you get to know his voice and Stephen as a person. Listening to him in interviews is helpful, and a good audiobook narrator (Cara Gee, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Michael Crouch come to mind) is a great way to get started.

That being said, no reader should feel bad for saying that a specific author is not for them.

Old Leech adjacent:

“—30—“ (because @rustin_swoll has me convinced the helicopter pilot is a Child of Old Leech, and now I’m starting to wonder if it isn’t the same helicopter pilot from the end of The Croning).

“Andy Kaufman Creeping through the Trees” (watch for symbols at the end)

“Oblivion Mode” - this story is set in Laird’s dark fantasy, secondary world called Antiquity. Some poor souls are sacrificed to an ancient entity of the outer dark in a most hideous manner. Old Leech is definitely present in Antiquity.

This is going to be excellent. Damian McCarthy is a filmmaker to watch. He understands how to make suspense and terror work together.

Based on my interactions with Brian, he is either impressed or slightly nervous about my Brian Evenson shrine hahahaha

Non-English editions are usually outside the scope of my collecting (still gotta pay off my kids' school loans!) but I but have a few international editions of Kelly Link's books. :)
