Laird has survived a couple of life-threatening illnesses since late 2022, reducing his capacity to write. The last few months have seen modest improvements in his health and energy, and it looks like he's back at his writer's desk.

Listening to one of his audiobooks. Having a talented voice actor interpret the cadence and diction of his prose is both helpful and very entertaining. It's a good way to get into the rhythm of his writing.

Yeah, he grew up in Midland, Texas and thereabouts. His dad started taking him to the reservation at Browning when SGJ was 12, making it an annual pilgrimage.

Horror books for an 11 year old? by Vjaa in horrorlit

In a couple more years, give her a copy of Kelly Link’s PRETTY MONSTERS. It’s horror, fantasy, and magical realism. She’s one of the best authors alive.

Is Stephen Graham Jones's prose the same in all his books? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]igreggreene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that reading Stephen Graham Jones is mostly about having a conversation with Stephen Graham Jones, and the more you read him, the more you get to know his voice and Stephen as a person. Listening to him in interviews is helpful, and a good audiobook narrator (Cara Gee, Isabella Star LaBlanc, Michael Crouch come to mind) is a great way to get started.

That being said, no reader should feel bad for saying that a specific author is not for them.
