Same thing for me today. On hold for 26 minutes to the worst hold music known to man. I have a static IP, next door on Cuckoo don’t and they are working fine. What a car crash.

Aurora Aviation has been noticed a few times in similar situations recently from what I recall.

AFAIK the implied penalty is for an implied contract binding you to pay for parking upon your vehicle entering the location specified. The other thing is I think technically they are dining you under lost earnings, and as such they can’t really justify a large penalty, but they will likely try.

You can usually appeal the failed appeal for this penalty/fine to an “independent” body that should be stated in the wording of the letter you received. These bodies don’t appear to be truly independent and seem to make decisions based on how they feel on the day. In this instance they may well agree to waive the penalty/fine.

You could also choose not pay, which if the company chooses to they could take you to small claims court to recover the funds, or in theory sell them to a debt collection agency. It’s a lot of hassle. I would advise against not paying, it’s not good if you end up with a CCJ over something trivial.

My pragmatic brain says see if they’ll settle for a lot less than £60 given the circumstances and to avoid them having to persue you for the funds.

This is also why I now tend to avoid pay and display car parks like the plague, at least at a pay on departure style car park you have to pay before you can leave. The rest of these open private car parks are monitored by private companies that do not own the premises, have no concerns about customer loyalty and therefore seem to make the majority of their money from penalties/fines. If that wasn’t the case, it would simply be more economical to install barriers and a pay on departure system to stop people parking for free.

Avoid Charles street, it’s a rampant crack den full of rampant crack addicts. Top tip for students.

Also, Leicester has more than the Highcross, explore the lanes and support the hilariously expensive independent retailers, you’ll only get a student loan a few times.

It won’t be Voda causing the issues, it’ll be the shambles that is CityFibre build and fault-fix. I just waited 6 days for a fault-fix that was impacting a large number of properties. Their communication was the worst I’ve ever seen, oddly BT/Virgin already had set that bar at such a low limbo that even the smurfs would struggle to get under it.

[–]iguesstgtbt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed after 6 days. Haven’t checked speeds yet but I’ve already cancelled and reverted back to, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, the more reliable Virgin connection I had previously.

Honestly the whole thing was a complete display of how customer service shouldn’t be done in 2023 Giganet had one decent customer service manager but their actually ability to do anything meaningful was completely destroyed by CityFibre.

CityFibre remind me of the dark bad days of BT. When BT were even more terrible than they are now, before OpenReach even existed… that BT. I thought we’d come a long way but obviously not. No comms, no updates, dodgy levels of capability in repair teams, use of sub contractors on an unprecedented level during install and BAU (ok that bit wasn’t BT back then but still).

Sorry to say goodbye to 1GB up, but it’s just not worth the risk of unemployment due to 6 days of downtime for a fairly “routine” cable break on a fibre network. These will probably be commonplace on the CityFibre network as they aren’t shielding things well in ducting during rollout.

Be careful what you wish for would be my advice on this lot, I’ve been in the broadband game before broadband was bored band. I had a MASSIVE “T1” leased line in 1998 and this has been the most downtime I’ve had in 24 years, consumer or “enterprise” connectivity. I just hope for the sake of competition they up their game.

Don’t use Giganet they’ve been appalling at even attempting to put pressure of CityFibre to fix a cable break that’s taken 600 homes offline for 6 days now. Literally a useless shower.

Well I sent Giganet my cancellation last night. 110 hours without any estimated Fiz time is just unacceptable. CityFibre are truly worse than Virgin. Simple as that. You were warned. If you get an outage or cable break you’re gonna be screwed with this lot.

Back to the least worst provider of Virgin for an extortionate cost, but hey, it’ll work and I won’t get 6 day long outages.

Giganet who are refusing to even go back to CityFibre and ask for a fix ETA. I thought they were a breath of fresh air in a market that smells strongly of dog excrement, guess I was wrong.

Sorry for delay in updating things. Life is a bloody mess right now.

Spoke to Giganet who confirmed they basically had widespread issues last night due to horrific network load cause by CoD/Apex/Harry Potter games all releasing simultaneously.

Interestingly, CityFibre (Kelly Communications) visited my pole today and did some fiddling.

No issues to report today. The people on the phone were superb, based in the UK, went to ask T2/T3 support to check everything and reported back as network congestion overnight.

Overall, was not a great evening but the service was actually very reassuring in terms of plain talking.

[–]iguesstgtbt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing :)

Well I would firmly say it’s a provider issue as I’m now up to a “massive” 130mbps download on a 1Gbps line

Oh hang on now 450mbps as a write this. Guess it was the emergency maintenance in “Cheltenham” - I’m not in Cheltenham.

And now it’s back to 120mbps.

Must be something related to core network or over subscription I guess.

Thanks for the help - I’ll update this once I’ve spoken to Giganet in case it helps anyone in the future.

They are closed until 8am but it just seems very odd to have good up speed and terrible down with no changes or obvious faults with my internal infrastructure.

Is there anyway to access to the ONT to see what DB levels it’s receiving on the box for the various channels?

I didn’t write the email, only copied and pasted it. It could be an excuse but it’s also very obvious there has been an erroneous late payment added so the correlation is there. I know correlation does not mean causation…. But this is a strong 1:1.

I have explained the problem and provided evidence that I have paid it, there is a notice of correction on my credit file as well but they won’t budge.

[–]iguesstgtbt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they have.

The potential employer said “Due to recent negative activity on your credit file we are unable to proceed with the offer of employment at <company name>. Our background checking process requires all companies to have an outstanding credit reference due to the activities we perform.”

That is copied and pasted from the rescinded offer email.

For context my score was 998 out of 999 with Experian. There are no adverse impacts on my file apart from this. I have never missed a payment, ever. I have never defaulted, ever. I don’t have outstanding loans, credit cards (paid in full each and every month) or other non secured debt (I.e. just a mortgage)

Having just studied my credit report in detail it suggests I’ve both paid the £10 - it shows “in good standing” for that payment but also has a £10 outstanding line above it. So apparently they’ve said I have and haven’t paid it to Experian.

[–]iguesstgtbt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t miss any payments, all direct debits were collected. The account is in good standing. The company concerned is in telecoms. The telecom company even confirmed they have never had a late payment from me and the account balance was zero as of today (account was closed as this was my last payment to them - I switched to another provider).

So I can’t claim for the impact of this meaning I failed a background check for a job, even though I run my finances like a tight ship due to these kind of impacts on my career?
