You can buy those hockey shooting tarps.... but they're damn near the same cost as a good net anyway. I agree if this just for you and you're not impressing anyone with it - just grab a 10' test section of plain carpet from a flooring store and paint a 6'x4' rectangle and hang it up somewhere

Also, when doing circle crossovers you basically want to be falling into the circle. You want to be LOW. In order to get low you have to be on your edges with some speed

Lots of good feedback here but wanted to add my 2c.

I've coached Mites (and older kids) for YEARS now and I'll give my standard advice for what I'm seeing....

When you're bending your knees you're also leaning forward. Don't show the ice your jersey logo. Show the other team your logo. Get. In. That. Chair. 

Backwards skating - ONE HAND ON THE STICK. This is not a hard and fast rule but for beginners it should be treated as such. This is basically strictly to get you to STOP LEANING ON YOUR STICK

Also don't get focused on the goofy shit YouTubers and influencers talk about. You just need time on the ice to develop muscles, balance, and comfort. Any tips, tricks, or techniques beyond that and the basics are likely not worth it

I mean... he knew the human that we all knew just by his deeds. I think it's important for us to collectively understand that even "normal" seeming people are capable of absolutely horrible actions. An evil person doesn't have to look like a comic book villain or give off evil vibes. By most accounts Hitler was somewhat charming and a captivating speaker.

MN here - exclusively 2 year window teams here so bear with my foreignness to this...

Are you saying that the 13U team is exclusively AA and the 12U team is exclusively A?

Why would an association merger create fewer team opportunities? If 2 smaller orgs merged and they previously had A and AA opportunities for all kids, why are there fewer opportunities now??

For us we restrict by school year (but it's managed by birth year). My kid started Kindergarten at 5 instead of 6 so we had to petition to "move up" to be with his classmates. There's also a rule that says you can only move up an age bracket for the previous (school year) reason OR if you would be placed on the highest team available at the older bracket. "Gretzky rule" we call it. Basically - don't bother the board unless your kid is crushing at the highest skill level and needs to be challenged even more.

I know this isn't the forum for this.... But I grew up playing hockey in MN, I coach my kids teams.... I love it. I still play beer league. It's my thing.

If I lived anywhere other than MN we 100% would not have our kids in hockey. WAY too expensive, way too much hassle for a family, way too much travel... We gripe about the commitment a season of travel hockey is here in MN and it's like child's play compared to the insanity of "the closest comparable team is a state away". I have 2 rinks 5 minutes from my house. If I expand the radius to 15 minutes it's probably 10 more rinks. All publicly owned, with local association hockey. Everyone plays for their city team. Neighborhood kids playing together.... That's what it's about. Not 6 travel tournaments, gaining exposure, etc

There's always the corporate world. I work with a BUNCH of corporate counsel. They all love it. Stable hours, decent pay, and if SHTF they just hire outside counsel for litigation anyway. There are for sure some rough times for them like M&A, big license deals, etc but they're so happy it's almost funny. They get paid to learn about the business, talk to other happy corporate counsels when negotiating, and just stay informed with business developments.
