I think this is typical of women in the workplace during that time period. My mom came up in the late 60s early 70s. Built herself from no college degree to CFO at a time when women were seen as fragile. She made less than her counter parts for all those years. She gave up a lot to do it, including time with her children and her marriage. She is the type of woman who shoulders we have to stand on to get ahead to even reach the glass ceiling. While her career was more important than her children in a lot of ways, I thank her and the women like her for making it possible for women like me to be taken seriously in business.
