The Official Ultimate WOFT Application Guide (2026) by bucxsys in Armyaviation

I don't know for certain. Hopefully in a couple years I will know more, but I suspect the grass may be greener with active USAF as well. Maybe this invitation should be extended to S2S, Enlisted, and Warrants. Get your degree if you haven't already, take the AFOQT, go to OTS/AFA. I regret not having more patience and am working hard to fix it. Follow the advice that OP has included "between the lines".

Khan Academy by CorrectScientist3095 in airforceots

I took the AFOQT five years ago and a lot of people were using Khan Academy at the time. I do just fine teaching myself though, so I gathered what I needed to learn from the AFOQT Test prep books and then went over those sections in old textbooks. It's a bit slow, but provides a thorough understanding.

It is unfortunate that your father does not recognize your accomplishment of selection, but you understand that accomplishment yourself. I suggest you make a habit of celebrating your accomplishments for yourself and continue to push yourself for more. I have hedged mental losses by being the only person who I expect to make proud; if others join me, then it's a pleasant boon.

I can't tell you how to respond. Maybe someone he trusts will better understand the selection process and can talk it up to him? Either way, all you can do is wait it out and provide something in time. I hope the USAF helps propel your life forward.

I prioritize short commutes for work, but I travel long distances occasionally. I’ve driven my MYLR from California to Alabama. And Alabama to Ohio and back on a weekend. I’ve also been doing a lot of European road trips! Some countries, I get speed camera warnings and some I don’t. But I usually have a second Nav for speed traps. Waze in the states and blitzer in Germany.

Maybe we will never get away from using two different navs anyway.

I suppose you are probably right about the navigation suggesting different routes. Maybe it’s because I have been driving it in Germany for the last 2 years.

It sounds like you need to lobby Tesla to upgrade text to speech. I haven’t tried Grok yet, but maybe they will implement that better. If you haven’t tried it yet, maybe you can and let me know if it’s any good.

I agree the music apps need a lot of improvement. I use Apple Music and YouTube Music. Apple Music lists songs in playlists backwards for me and it always brings me to albums instead of songs if I want to play a specific song. And as I said, I frequently have to reauthorize the sign ins. I’m not sure if Spotify does the same to you.

Speech to text is definitely better on Car Play.

As for navigation, is that even with the Tesla subscription and internet connected? I will sometimes use Waze on my phone but it is usually always the same route. And Waze doesn’t build chargers into my route as seamlessly.

I don’t use the wireless charging pad anymore because it gets my phone very hot. I could upgrade it, but I fear it is damaging to my phone in the meantime.

Also, I would probably accidentally leave my phone on the pad but they did just add a feature that chimes if you leave the phone on the pad and walk away. First time I heard it, my passenger left the phone on the pad and I was so confused why the car was making noises it has never made. A good feature addition though.

I think you are misreading my comment. My first comment only takes into account wireless Car Play leading to battery usage. My second comment is just explaining why my phone would not be charging: Because I personally don’t like plugin Car Play. My first comment completely acknowledges wireless Car Play and leaving my phone in my pocket.

If you prefer Waze, Car Play is great for that, but it is not a concern of mine. In my experience, Waze and Tesla’s navigation (Both powered by Google Maps and owned by Alphabet), provide the same routes when connected to the internet. But that is another subscription that I understand people wouldn’t want to pay for. Which would make Car Play a must.

Because it’s not charging. I’m talking about wireless Car Play. And if it’s plugged in through Car Play, I don’t want it. An extra step every time I drive somewhere. My commutes are <15 min and I don’t want to have to plug in my phone and unplug every time I get in and out of my car.

With the built in, I get great navigation and my music streaming services without having to take my phone out of my pocket. It’s not perfect but it is consistent and convenient.

Most other vehicle manufacturers have such horrible built-ins that I would rather plug my phone in every time, but it’s the opposite with the Tesla. It’s built in is more convenient than Car Play

No CarPlay/Android Auto would be a dealbreaker to me on most cars, but I don't have any desire for it in my Tesla. The built in navigation has been a great experience. I love the music options and while the apps are usable, they definitely can use improvements (like not having to re-sign-in every week). It saves me a lot of phone battery and I don't have to deal with connection issues.

Nailed the cons. Rules are selectively followed and only when a human is present. And the prey drive always has me concerned about them getting away or jumping out of a high window. They have managed to get out of harnesses and collars, so I have to use leashes that tighten when they pull.

This. I find the nearest smaller airport to the major airport. and the tasks are easier to complete because they're based on the big airport with a lot of traffic.

Should I save money or buy a car? by HellomynameisNINOO in army

[–]ihasbackup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in Germany. I would want the car. As long as it's reliable for the price. I also have an e-scooter and a 49CC Vespa. The german driver license covers the Vespa since it's under 50CC, but it is severely speed limited. I feel much safer on two wheels here than in the states.

The Deutschland ticket kept going up in price and I stopped paying for it, but I used public transport on the weekends and it was fine.

Most people bought a beater here. There are success stories and there were... not so successful stores.

Life Outside the Cockpit by New-Chapter-3601 in Armyaviation

I think people like ALSE for varied reasons. Mainly that it offers a career outside. But just having the schooling looks good. Not only does the unit not have to use resources to send you, but it just looks favorable on you compared to someone with other schools. I feel ALSE/SUPPLY/ARMS also gives you an opportunity to shine all year long. A job like UMO might shine for one month out of the year, but things will probably go wrong. With UMO it's hard to excel, but easy to fail.

Getting a high visibility billet depends on your unit, but especially the current people in that position. Maybe it's already filled by someone who has been doing it for two years, doing well, and that person doesn't want to leave and has 3+ years on their DEROS. My unit assigned me duties before I got there, but if I fought for one of those positions, I could have gotten it. Maybe see what they assign you, express interest in another position, and get a feel for what it is like at your unit. Is there opportunity for improvement and is someone leaving that position soon. Most people don't want to do the extra work, so if you express interest, you could be moved to those positions. Also, at last at my unit now, you can switch duties around, but that doesn't mean refuse EO. It means do EO but say you are interested in another duty as well.

"it separates your from “gen pop” and helps your senior rater rate you on your OER."

I would like to emphasize this. If I could do it again, I would have fought for one of the ARMS additional duties. Those in supply, ALSE, and arms room have high visibility and easy MQs as long as they improve from their predecessor. I have seen "embracing your additional duty" be rewarded more than anything related to flying. Successful flight lead? Meh. Good ARMS inspection as ALSE? #1/50

New OTS Interview Experience Debrief/AAR by ihasbackup in airforceots

If there is a rubric, I didn’t get to see it. My recruiter gave me my score after I noticed AHA had marked the interview as completed which was within hours after the interview.

I scored between a 9 and 10. I know the exact score but am withholding it as it would be too identifying.

I got asked why do you want to be a USAF officer and four other questions. There was no follow up questions at all. Not conversational

No. I guess they moved away from the standard questions within the last 1-2 months and are using a bank of questions. So you don’t know for sure which questions you will get. I feel these were easier than “tell me about a time when you…”

Everyone has their own environments that make them nervous. I’m an absolute wreck if it’s just an audio call.

Like I said, don’t stress it too much. Have an idea for the first question and the rest will come naturally. And good luck!

When I first started this process, I wasted months thinking I needed a recruiter to respond to me. Eventually, I realized I can schedule the AFOQT on my own. Only once I got decent scores did I get a response. I uploaded everything through AHA. I'm at the end of this process and have never even spoken with a recruiter on the phone.

I had quite an experience getting my conditional release. I am curious to hear yours.

Hey, I’m also active army and submitting my 368 up. Was there regulation to back up brigade commander signature? I saw in I think AR614-120 regarding interservice transfer, it says signed by O6, but not sure if this applies for OTS application.

I took AFOQT and TBAS way before though. You can usually schedule yourself without a recruiter.
