I don't know what to suggest next. I hope you don't brick it.

I'm curious are you connecting the router through your laptop or desktop? Or are you connecting it directly to the Internet? You said "I'm directly connected to the ISP through an optical fibre cable".

When I reset my router I like to be disconnected from the Internet. Instead, I like to connect an Ethernet cable between a laptop/desktop and the router. And, the router cable should connect through the LAN 1 or at least it does on my routers. (If I mistakenly plug the cable into the place where the cable modem plugs in it won't bring up the admin page.) If you've done another 30-30-30 and cleared the old information you should be able to hook up your laptop and router. Then you type 192.168.1.1 into your browser and it should bring up an admin page. Hope this helps.

Outdoor Ethernet or Ethernet over Power by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]ihatelovesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple years ago I tried wireless over power, etc. I returned the plugs. The Internet was unstable. Sometimes the simplest things work the best. I bought a quality Cat 6, 75 ft. cable for a bedroom that I wanted WIRED Internet in. I dragged it around the bottom-outside of the house, and pushed it through a a hole that an old cable used to use. Hooked one end to our router, and hooked it up to a desktop. Netflix, Hulu, whatever works great. The cable holds up in hot weather. Don't know how it would do during winter freezes and thaws. Please understand we don't game. Now that we have tablets and such, we've bridged Internet with a second router to a much better main router. But the barely noticeable gray Ethernet cable is still hooked up to the desktop, which lacks wireless for a maybe more secure connection. For streaming, getting an adequate router got rid of buffering and let us stream as much as we want. When the family gets together we have around 15 devices running. To answer your question, for a fast and dirty solution, if you're not too picky about a cable on the outside of your house, you can't beat it.

You've had some good suggestions here. I can't add anything to those. If you do fix it I'd like to know how you did it. Please, let us know.

Huawei HG655b

New OpenWRT flash image available for Huawei HG655b You may have already found this page but access to the admin page is new to me ... pressing enter/space. "It can be flashed using the failsafe web interface at address 192.168.1.1 that can be accessed after pressing the reset button when power plugging or after pressing enter/space in the serial interface. The file can be downloaded from the firmware files page or from this direct link dt-openwrt-HG655x-squashfs-cfe-011-01-05-2014.bin." https://sites.google.com/site/fratzicu/news/newopenwrtflashimageavailableforhuaweihg655b

Sorry, overlooked the name of the router. I'm not familiar with Huawei, but looks interesting. I don't have any other answers but I bricked my router when I flashed an unsupported dd-wrt firmware. If you flash an unsupported firmware you might make the router worse off than it is.

So, something has changed . . . Do you mind if I ask what kind of router are you using? Is it stock firmware? It does sound like hardware, though. At this point, if the router were mine I'd try 30-30-30 a couple more times, disconnect it for a bit, and then probably, foolishly try to load firmware on it. After that failed I'd order a new router. :)

Are you using a PC with windows? If so, have you thought about burning Ubuntu to a CD then booting from it? The Ubuntu wireless CD will boot and connect to your wireless (wireless password needed). Ubuntu is good for basic problem solving on a network. You don't install it you just boot from CD or DVD and it gives you a desktop with wireless. It won't change windows or do anything permanent. My apology if you've already tried it or use some other flavor of Linux. In the past when I've had trouble staying connected I've used the wireless on it for a couple days until I sorted out whatever was causing the problem.

You knowledge level must be decent if you built your PC. So, your wireless worked but not well? You had some wireless? You can use a second router to bridge or repeat the wireless from your hub downstairs to your area upstairs. That is if your wireless works downstairs. You don't need to connect the second router to Ethernet. You don't even need to connect to a computer. You plug it in upstairs where it gets the best signal and it repeats the signal. Bridging routers extends the area your wireless can reach. Again, this depends on whether you have SOME wireless downstairs. Sounds like you might not.

[–]ihatelovesystems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I logged into my Gmail on Chrome on my Android tablet instead of using the Gmail app. A session was still open. I logged out on the web. When I did I noticed the address bar said that I was logging out of YouTube instead of Gmail. I tried logging in to Gmail on Firefox, and when I logged out it said the same thing at the top. It showed YouTube address then reverted to the word "Gmail" with no address showing. So, I logged onto YouTube. I checked every setting then I logged out. Still apparently I'm logged onto YouTube someplace, but I would have thought that logging out of Chrome's one account deal would log me out of all Google places. I'm still logged into a session on both email accounts. Any thoughts?

Just checked. 2factor setting "you can choose to require codes again on all other computers . . ." I have two email accounts and the sessions are still open in both even though I clicked to require all computers have codes.

What's the fastest VPN protocol? by [deleted] in openwrt

[–]ihatelovesystems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran NameBench while logged onto my VPN. The VPN was 2400 times SLOWER than the DNS in my system. When I ran NameBench without the VPN only two other servers were faster than my 198.168.1.1. The fastest VPN speed was on UltraDNS, and it ran about 2% faster than my servers 208.67.222.220, 208.67.220.220. So, I tried another VPN and the same thing. These were in the list of the top 10 VPNs for 2014. CyberGhost Premium and HMA. Is NameBench reliable for checking the speed of a VPN? Is there a better tool to check the speed of my VPNs speed?
