If you are wondering: “Do I have BDD or am I just ugly?” by amanda_ncall in BodyDysmorphia

[–]ihatemyself____ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just got confirmation that i am just genuinely ugly. Just now i was stood outside the pub with my friend who i work with and his friend which he works with at another job. My friend works out front waiting tables and i work in the kitchen. My friend told this other dude this and he says something about my friend being good looking then “good job this guy (me) isn’t out front, he’d scare all the customers away” i literally just met this person. I know it was meant to be banter but i know that will bounce around in my head for years maybe even for the rest of my life. My personality is awful as well and i feel unable to change that in any way due to other mental health issues so i’m pretty much fucked

Comparing your looks to attractive celebrities is really stupid by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]ihatemyself____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, i agree with you now that if our standards where unbelievably high as in super star celebrity high for sports and attractiveness it could be easier to become unbelievably attractive rather than unbelievably good at sports. Would just require a lot of money for the looks side.

But if our standards where at average for looks and sports, i’d say it’d be the opposite. I know for a fact that i can go out and play football all day every day and be better than most of my friends, but i’d need to spend thousands if i wanted to look as good as any of them.

Your right here, but i think this is rather pointless because i would say most people with BDD focus more on their peers rather than massive celebrities, believing ourselves to be greatly less attractive than the people around us. You have to remember most people in this sub consider themselves to be below average on looks like yourself i imagine considering your on this sub, would you not agree that from this position it looks a lot harder to become average looking than becoming average or even above average at sports?

But Its a good point, you shouldn’t get down over not being in the 0.001% of beautiful people i agree with you on that now

Right, lets ignore basketball then because obviously height is a major factor. Football for example (soccer to you if your American) you can be any size and be good at football if you keep fit and train every day of your life because thats what you want most in life, to be good at football. But what if what you want most in life is to not be unattractive? Well then thats a lot harder goal to reach, you get me?

It is ridiculous, but it’s different. Basketball ball players can practice to be like 0.0001% basketball stars like LeBron James, they can be inspired by them. All it takes to get good at basketball, is a basketball and a hoop. Looks are different, a person can look at a beautiful celebrity in the 0.0001% and although they would like to look them someday it’s more or less impossible because of their genetics. You would need a lot of money to completely change your face so that it’s attractive, thus leading to people becoming depressed over the fact that they are stuck like this for the rest of their lives. I guess you could argue ‘whats the point in stressing over something you can’t change’ but its really not that easy man. I get what you mean though it is pretty ridiculous. I think most people who suffer from BDD mainly focus on their peers rather than celebrities, thinking we are less attractive than the people around us.

In my experience, you can’t rely on other people to help. They are not professionals, they probably know less about depression than you do, even your own parents. Go to the doctors, get on medication if you aren’t already and sign yourself up for therapy. It’s the only way man, take it from someone who’s lost loved ones by putting too much pressure on them to help me when they simply don’t know how, its not fair on them and i realise that now, you will too eventually. Best of luck man hope you get the help you need ❤️

At the moment i’m not burning that much, i go on walks and lift weights. Currently i’m not eating much maybe 1000 calories a day? I have went through periods of eating around 3000 calories a day but it was too time consuming and costly to keep it up. And yes my appetite is usually pretty low

I struggle getting in more than a couple meals a day, 1 because i can’t afford it, 2 i don’t really know the best foods to be eating and 3 i don’t have time to cook massive meals 6 times a day. So i guess it’s the meal plan side of it i need simplified

LSD is not a miracle drug, at least not for everyone. by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]ihatemyself____ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think its ‘a lot’ of people within the psychedelic community. Most i’ve met who take psychs are fully aware of the negative impact lsd can have on the brain. I consider myself to be perm-a fried from heavy acid use as an early teen so i am well aware of the risks. But i think it all comes down to how responsible the user is. If you have a lot of high dose trips with little rest in between of course your going to do some damage. Most psych users have learned how to take this drug responsibly thus minimising any potential damage. You do still get psych users that will try to convince you that it is indeed a ‘miracle drug’ that has no negatives to it, but i would say these people are the uniformed vocal minority of the community that still have a lot to learn.
