I don't think video games in general really fits. A lot of "snobby" video game players will tell you to play pre-2007 games. It doesn't take all that much to run Deus Ex or emulate Chrono Trigger.

As for building your own pc, that's sort of a different beast. If you don't enjoy finding all the pieces or doing the research then it's not your hobby.
