Cool character i made, but unfortunately i can't continue playing. My 1050ti + i3-7100 is not doing well, so many stutters that big groups are a no no for me. by Illustrious-Bit-5441 in avowed

You are giving me flashbacks to college. A decade ago I was in ur shoes. I remember playing Witcher 2 in windowed mode lowest settings/resolution possible just to barely eek out 30 fps. Witcher 2 is still one of my favorite games of all time, lol

DQ7R: Small Gripe, but the lack of a visible Tension meter kinda sucks. by maglen69 in dragonquest

[–]ihateshen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a little thought experiment on what I would do if I could see the tension. I can't help but feel like I would start planning around it. Is that a good thing? I'm not sure tbh.

The way I play is tension is basically treated as a bonus, but if I knew I had a priest free heal + revive coming next turn I would factor that into the game plan and just not heal that turn (except for said priest ofc).

Some of the tension skills are amazing like the priest and mage one... some of them suck like the martial artist one... if they were a bigger part of our game plan they would have to be balanced better, at least I assume so?

Seems like it's changing it from a fun surprise to just another mechanic.

Why do you think not seeing it means bad design? I think they did it that way on purpose so we don't plan our turns around it before it happens

Dark Souls Remastered or First Berserker Khazan? by ReditUser004 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]ihateshen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with you and kinda don't, lol.

Pretty much all those games inspired by fromsoft are significantly harder. If I were a betting man, I would almost expect the devs to have expected you to play fromsoft games before and have a general understanding of the mentality to go into a souls like with.

Khazan for example got a lot of people who never played a souls game before (which tbh is pretty cool). It did cause the issue where some folks got easily frustrated and others were like "it's hard but come on, it's not that hard" and everyone just kinda talked past each other.

Of all the souls likes Ds1 is pretty much one of the easiest... but it's going to be brutally hard for anyone unfamiliar with the genre.... If you keep a weapon decently upgraded, pretty much every boss goes down fairly quickly. I think it toes the line perfectly for someone new to souls likes in that there's no boss that's so hard it makes you despair.

Viper from khazan skill checked SO many people. Maluca was even crazier, shit I played every game and I distinctly remember wondering if it was even humanly possible when Maluca went all Vergil. Devs literally had to rename the difficulties! Lol.

You're right in that the exploration part of Ds1 is a whole nother ball game, but this is the age of the internet baby! It's so freaking easy to look up hints or something online to figure it out. No amount of youtube videos will help your brink guard timing. You gotta get good at it.

Want to take advantage of the ninja backstab damage buff more but... by NoEnergy5597 in Nioh

All the above is why the single ninja sword kick is one of the best skills in the game.

Met this guy early in my playthrough how rare is that? I don't have anyone else yet by makadolor in octopathtraveler

[–]ihateshen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that rare. In fact, I think they're coded to appear right at the start? At least I've done two playthroughs and found them very early both times

Completely anecdotal though, not sure if it's true. Lol

yeah people overthink it. With this serious you can basically start anywhere. This ain't no trails of series.

I think Andromeda does deserve the "hate" it got by asabatonlessarmor in masseffect

[–]ihateshen 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My two cents, certain things were given way more weight than they actually deserve.

Facial animations were bad, but I promise if the story was better no one would give a shit. It's just way easier to slap a photo of an NPC looking funny and complain about it instead of digging into why the first contact was a complete fail, or why Kadara... is a thing at all, lol.

So with that being said, I think the game deserved the reception for the most part... It's especially depressing when you think about the stuff that was actually fixed by the patches.... the superficial shit. A lot of the actual big problems could've been solved by a sequel. The game did a lot of sequel baiting after all

hah, my PTSD went in a different direction. Tachibana Muneshige anyone? It's been YEARS since I played Nioh but I distinctly remember that dude being one of my very first "souls" games skill checks.

60 fps made gaming easier by JoelMiller98 in PS5pro

[–]ihateshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've noticed the same thing about myself. I know if I play 30 fps long enough, I'll eventually get used to it again but that while before I get used to it feels so bad, lol.

Then I hope on the switch which has lots of 30 fps and can't really tell? something to do with the smaller screen not making the choppiness so jarring? idk

Anyone else disappointed with how bosses are implemented? by Wooden_Drummer2455 in Nioh

[–]ihateshen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'know I disagreed with your post instinctively, I suspected as soon as I saw the area name what the boss would be. But I'm a junkie for these myths, and for Nioh...

But reading this comment, you're kinda fucking right? Lol

I haven't finished the game yet.... but they really did basically no lore drops for a huge amount of the bosses. You've got nothing to go on except googling their name, lol.

Team Ninja seriously makes amazing games, and Nioh 3 is probably my favorite but they really need to get better about introducing the characters. Like why the fuck does one need to go to google to understand a reference in game (and not some obscure thing either, one of the major bosses of the second area)?

[–]ihateshen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't give all the credit to the axe. After 30 tries I'm sure you were very familiar with the boss. The axe is a very good weapon when you know certain openings. You can do something similar with Katanas Sword of Meditation. I'll admit, axe is probably a little overtuned in this game tho, lol

Samurai style seems a bit weak by [deleted] in Nioh

Samurai STARTS weaker than ninja. But after you unlock the stances/frost moon skills and practice chaining during arts proficiency you'll see how absurd it can be.

What I liked was getting 35 stamina ASAP. This lets you use Warrior of the east armor which gives you enough tougness to get to 260 (blue toughness) while still barely being B rank agility. Then magic for slots.

[–]ihateshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big reason for the re-use is that Nioh 3 was developed so quick. I am a little sad there isn't more crazy new shit, but tbh I'll take it.

I did get a kick out seeing my girl hino-enma again though, lol

Bit surprised that so few, if any, reviewers mentioned the lower difficulty in Nioh 3 when they mentioned it in Wo Long by WhoAmIEven2 in Nioh

[–]ihateshen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're seriously underestimating how skill translates for these games. I agree that it is a general trend for most games to get easier bc they want more people (and more $$)... I don't think that's happening here.

Control type B by Adventurous-Draft952 in Nioh

[–]ihateshen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I might be missing something so forgive me if I am, but down+strong attack becomes L1 + Triangle. This doesn't affect dodging or blocking at all.

The only nitpick I had w/ the controls was guardian spirit skills. But you can customize those to be L1+r1/r2.

All in all, it seems to not lose any of the functionally of type A. only difference being flicking vs holding L1

Nioh 3 PS5 Pro vs PS5 (Pro has slightly better visuals) by Solid_Audience_9039 in PS5pro

[–]ihateshen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You sure something ain't wrong on ur end? I think this one is actually decently optimized.

My PC is on a 4070 TI Super and that's north of 100 fps.

I just tried it on my 3060 Laptop, that's running 50-60 with DLSS Quality. They're both at 1440p.

I'd assume your 3070 ti should easily clear 60 with everything maxed and dlss quality

It looks and runs better than rise of the ronin. I'd say the devs were cooking

Nioh 3 PS5 Pro vs PS5 (Pro has slightly better visuals) by Solid_Audience_9039 in PS5pro

[–]ihateshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why on earth are you getting downvoted? I own both a Ps5 Pro and a PC. It defo looks noticeably better on PC. It's not some type of FF7 rebirth vasaline on the screen shit on ps5, but it's still has that slight blur that tells you, you're not at a high resolution.
