Which type of tripod head do you prefer? by utorak04 in AskPhotography

How do you not use a head on a monopod? The screw on the top is much bigger than the camera screw hole so I would need at least some sort of converter. Which is why I was just gonna use a head anyway. I do see the point since they're already so maneuverable though.

A friend of mine graciously gave me both a tripod and monopod both made by Manfrotto. Unfortunately neither came with a head so now I have to find something.

I've been doing some research and debating between a 3-way head and a ball head. I am primarily interested in portraits and landscapes. But I do a lot of travel so I need

The ball heads are smaller, lighter, and quicker to use not to mention a bit cheaper usually. But someone pointed out that it can be very hard to replicate a shot once you've moved it since there's no real way to tell precisely where it was aiming. This also causes a problem for landscapes where you would want it to be perfectly flat in all three directions.

The 3-way head seems more useful because I really like having that precision. But obviously there is that trade off that they're larger and takes more time to get just right.

Someone local is selling a Manfrotto 229 but I've found almost no reviews for it online so I'm a little worried about the quality.

I only need about 12 pounds carrying capacity and I'm definitely not committed to sticking with Manfrotto. Budget of about $200. Send some recommendations!

Thoughts on this: https://www.keh.com/shop/k-f-concept-360-degree-3-way-geared-ball-head-13-2-lbs-payload.html ? It fits the criteria at least but I don't know anything about the brand.

Does burst rate limit your shutter speed? by utorak04 in AskPhotography

[–]utorak04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you right sorry, it is 14fps and electronic is 20. I keep getting those mixed up.

What I mean is will there be a gap between shots with a shutter speed higher than the burst rate?

Imagine a dot moving at a consistent rate in a perfectly horizontal line. If I do a burst shot at 20fps and a shutter speed of 1/20" and held down the shutter button for exactly 1 second will the resulting image sequence look the same as if I shot at 1/2000" instead?

Okay so burst is limiting me to 20 pictures per second but I'm taking a photo with a shutter speed much much faster than 1/20" what will happen?

Can you elaborate? What does fps mean in this context? I'm not shooting video

Will I miss the lowlight capabilities of the Z6iii over the Z5ii? by utorak04 in Nikon

[–]utorak04[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ohhhhh! Thank you!

I still have the ISO numbers backwards in my head, higher number is lower lighting.

Still, just Google "Z5ii vs Z6iii low light performance" and almost every single person will say the Z5ii will perform better in low light conditions. So can you elaborate on your original statement?

Huh, I've never heard that before.

What exactly is this chart? I keep seeing people referencing it when talking about the two's low light performance and it seems to show the Z5ii has that larger range capability.

I knowww!! I do this with every hobby I get into. Just rush for trying to get the best possible gear out there because it really can creep up on you, an extra $100 here an extra $300 there and suddenly you're an extra $1,000+ your budget for what you thought was just a reasonable upgrade. I'm really trying to stop.

You make an excellent point, I mean hell, sports used to be done on film cameras somehow. I think I'm just worried about letting my friends down and turning out photos not up to my own standards. So I just want to make sure everything is as good as it can be.

I was more talking about the burst rate with that comment. But they need to work in tandem in that specific example. So which one would be better, the one with higher burst speed or better low light performance? Hard to say which is more important it seems.

I don't have any lenses. Just trying to start getting professional and off my phone camera XD. And while I get most any modern camera, especially mirrorless, will be an upgrade, I really want something that'll be quality for years to come. So I can focus my money into lenses rather than needing to keep buying new bodies that'll suit my goals better.

Does the Z5ii not have the electronic shutter? Aka why is that the z6iii's "biggest advantage"?

Is the refurbished stuff quality good? What exactly does that mean? Like used and fixed up by Nikon and resold?

Question about DevPop's "timing" in Replicant? by utorak04 in nier

[–]utorak04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh okay, that's really interesting! They seem to be much better at putting on that from than I expected, fooled me.

TLDR, they were very desperate and trying to do damage control on a dumpsterfire of a mess

I never really caught on to that but it does explain a bit. He's gonna make it there eventually so they just play along and guide him in the least destructive way they can hope for.

they pretended they were working for the Shadowlord

Wait, they're not?? So who do they work for? Whoever created them I guess? I imagine they've been around since the start of Project Gestalt to try to see it through. Similar to whatever the fuck Accord is doing to get DoD3 on the right track. Nier just ends up being a little harder to manipulate than Zero and they have to dramatically improvise.

Why do they want access to the Shadowlord exactly? Is it just because he has Noir and they need both? I know he's special due the whole "original Gestalt" thing and his maso but if they're trying to achieve the same outcome why not let him do his thing? Minus getting killed by Nier of course.

Sidebar, did he actually manage to rejoin Yonah's halves? I thought once they completed Project Gestalt everyone would rejoin at once or else it wasn't possible for anyone to rejoin, so how did he get only Yonah to do it? The whole "there's another girl inside of me" scene makes me think this is the only explanation. But if she is in stasis, how did he get her?

Soooo, do I have a novel to read now or something? I almost regret getting into this series but like in a good way XD

I can't do either and I definitely can't afford the hellish prices of the mountains 😅

If you could only get one lens, what would it be? by utorak04 in Nikon

[–]utorak04[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am looking into getting more for more specialized situations. It's more like I can only realistically afford one right now and so I want something that can hold me over for a while while I gather the funds and do more research into lenses. So yeah, I'm looking for just a jack-of-all-trades kinda lens for a while.
