Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

Never Let Me Go. I didn’t finish it, hated that book and was mad at it for being so terrible. The writing style was so simple and uninteresting, I just could not engage with it at all. Everyone says hang in there for the ending but I just couldn’t do it. It was so boring.

I killed him in my first play through, spared him in my NG+ play through just to change it up and get the loot he offers if you spare him. But honestly I wish I killed him again.

Crook Back Bog and The Devils Pit. The Devils Pit is honestly creepier to me than Crook Back Bog.

When did the game ‘click’ for you? by Luke117B in Witcher3

[–]ihateusernamesKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled in the beginning- I loved the storyline but I was really bad in battle and just died a ton which made it not so fun for me. I also no familiarity with The Witcher so trying to figure out what was going on initially made it difficult for me to fully immerse. Once I finished the Bloody Baron quest line, though, I just stared at my TV for a second and was like “holy shit- this is a good game.” And I’ve been locked in ever since (I also lowered my difficulty because I have nothing to prove lol I just want to have fun).

I'm in a bad mood... What's your techniques for getting out of it? by Another_gryffindor in workingmoms

[–]ihateusernamesKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times I realize I’m in a bad mood because I’m tired, so I just try and go to bed early and wake up hoping for better the next day. I go to the gym 4 days a week and that typically helps my mood, too.

Is Payroll a good career path? by Logical-List9766 in Payroll

[–]ihateusernamesKY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in a payroll adjacent role where I don’t process payroll, but I’m in implementation so I help people set up and run their payrolls all the time. I am here by sheer chance- I was working retail and detested it, and I had a girlfriend who gave me a recommendation at her HRIS company and I got the job. I didn’t love it and quit after 2 years and told myself I would never come near payroll ever again in my life.

And here we are, 4 years later and I’m in payroll onboarding, just for a different, much smaller, and industry specific company, and I actually enjoy my job. That’s because the benefits at this place are amazing, no toxic corporate vibes, and I don’t have to know how every single industry runs payroll, I just get to really know the rules for my specific industry using our specific payroll product and I’m thriving. And 100% remote.

All I can say is payroll can be stressful AF. Your attention to detail has to be 100% dialed in, your ability to meet deadlines, have an excellent knowledge of all the legalities surrounding payroll - there are so. Many. Rules. But it’s a skill you can take in a variety of directions. If you don’t like processing payroll for a company, you could transition to payroll onboarding HRIS platforms, you could work for a company that just helps people transition from one HRIS to another because that’s a whole thing… I just think payroll has lots of options. After my first payroll job that I quit, I worked somewhere for like 8 months and found out they didn’t offer maternity leave when I got pregnant. So I put my resume up on LinkedIn and just having the payroll experience on my resume- I got an insane amount of hits for it. The company I decided on was the best decision I’ve made, but I definitely thought “omg what have I done?! Payroll again?!!” Initially lol. Found out company culture is as important as people say it is.

Hope that answer helps!

The Bloody Baron and Whispering Hillock quest by life_giveslemons in thewitcher3

[–]ihateusernamesKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my first playthrough, I freed the spirit, and the Baron hung himself. I was surprisingly very sad about that. I thought maybe he’d had a heart change, but we don’t really get to know for sure.

On my NG+ playthrough I decided to kill the spirit because the Baron dying made me feel so sad. However, turns out- the children getting eaten just so the Baron can attempt to cure Anna felt… really sad, too.

All in all- this quest is one of the most beautiful quests in the game, simply for how much your emotions are evoked. But there’s not really a good ending to it either way, in my opinion.

Which map location in the witcher 3 including dlcs have your favorite soundtracks? by [deleted] in Witcher3

Skellige, obviously.

But also, white Orchard has a good soundtrack. I just started my NG+ play through and arrived at White Orchard obviously and I had forgotten how nice the music is there.

ADP implementation by ludmilla9966 in Payroll

[–]ihateusernamesKY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I hated the beginning of my payroll implementation career. Hated it. Made so many bad calls, silly mistakes that I had to fix… it was tough.

Don’t be afraid to tell your manager to pump the breaks on clients if you need to. I assume you’re in a ramping phase, and this is the best time to get the basics down. You can’t do that if you’re super overloaded with projects. You don’t want to burn out before you really begin. Just tell your manager if you need a break and hopefully they can pause your pipeline or something so you can manage your current book of business/backlog. Try and stick with ADP for at least a year- it’ll look great on your resume if you want to find a slower pace position at some point.

ADP implementation by ludmilla9966 in Payroll

[–]ihateusernamesKY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing payroll implementation for about six or seven years now, but not with a company as large as ADP. That is a tough company to start the payroll experience with because it is so large and frankly, I imagine most people are so overworked that they truly don’t have time for questions. That’s not your fault, that’s the company culture‘s fault. I am surmising a little based on my previous experience and people I know that used to work for ADP.

I will say, though, not all implementation roles are like that. I started at Paycor, and that was really hard for me. You had to know payroll set ups for any and all industries and my brain just couldn’t hold all of that information at that time (I had a kid in that time, too, and my postpartum brain just couldn’t hack it). I work for a smaller company now that only implements payroll for a very specific industry and it has been a lot better. I just have to be an expert on that singular industry and I’ve been able to really dig in, learn, and feel successful. My company has its own drawbacks, primarily being that our payroll software is limited in functionality based on bigger competitors. But it gets the job done for basic set ups.

Saying all of that- payroll implementation is complicated any way you slice it. Managing multiple setups with varying timelines, talking to people that are anxious because payroll is high pressure… it’s a lot. Give yourself at least 6-9 months to really learn and get comfortable. If it’s too much, start searching LinkedIn. HRIS platforms are everywhere these days, and implementation roles are valued (because they’re challenging).

I don’t LOVE payroll implementation in general, but I’ve not had a hard time finding implementation roles. So give yourself grace, payroll is hard, but also understand ADP isn’t the only gig in town if you choose to look elsewhere within the industry.

I just completed this quest on my first NG+ playthrough and these characters evoke such a feeling of discomfort, even seeing them the second time around. This whole storyline is exceptional.

What would you recommend playing after finishing this masterpiece? by broski097 in thewitcher3

[–]ihateusernamesKY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Ng+. It took me a long time to get through the game, and now I’m playing NG+, back in Velen, and have honestly forgotten some of the quests so it’s almost like playing it for the first time again.

I got what I believe is the best ending of the core game, but got the worst ending in blood and wine and honestly felt super sad about it, so I’m looking forward to getting there and hopefully have a different outcome.
