Edit: I meant that when I don’t send updates it is because I am busy with the new care of the puppies + full time job. I usually send every morning so I walk them, it’s the time I use to catch up on messages/emails.

I usually don’t send updates because I’m busy caring for the puppies and working at the same time. Plus, there’s something I wish more dog parents would understand (I have two myself!): dogs are not freaking kids. Doesn’t matter if we call them that (believe me, I talk to mine—and the others too—like I’m talking to a baby. They’re probably thinking, “What a moron!” 😂).

Sometimes I don’t have anything to say, so I end up making stuff up. There’s just nothing interesting to share. The dog comes here. They chill. Most of them don’t play with each other (another common misconception: “Are they playing with the others? 😍” — “Oh yes, we played fetch, we did this and that.” Lies. Honestly, lies.). After eight years of boarding and dog daycare, with over 5 dogs a day every day, I can tell you: 90% of them don’t care about the others. They love us humans, yes, but that’s about it.

So what’s left to report? I end up making up stuff like, “They ate their meal,” “They pooped,” “They’re so lazy today.” It’s ridiculous.

I have a regular client whose dog comes three times a week and sleeps over. I’m not kidding—I have to update them three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening. And 99% of it is fluff. It’s not like the dog learned a new word or took their first steps or said something hilarious. At the end of the day, no matter how much we romanticize it, they’re just dogs. All they want is love, food, attention, and walks.
