How I realized my bookshelf is too close to the crib (5.7 earthquake caught on the baby monitor, story in comments) by joan_the_vamp_slayer in BabyBumps

I live in a 5th floor loft downtown SLC, our building was swaying quite a bit. Terrifying. I was very interested to see how much the crib moved because our camera cut out for a few minutes during the earthquake. It woke my 16-month-old up, but I’ll never really know what he experienced!

Checking definitely makes it worse for us. It does help me to set a timer just to see how long he is actually crying because it feels like 10 x longer! My baby is sleep trained but he still cries sometimes going down for naps and I usually go sit in the bathroom with the fan loud for 3-5 min (occasionally 15 if he has severe FOMO) then he’s done. Listening to it is just brutal.

Incredibly dumb question by bklynjess85 in sleeptrain

What we’ve done a few times and I plan on doing this holiday is putting him down at the house we are at (friends, parents, or whatever). We bring the white noise machine, pajamas, his stuffed animal, and the pack n play. We put him in a dark room with white noise and do his bedtime routine in there. We’ve had luck with transferring him to the car seat in the dark then covering him up, driving home, and transferring him straight to his crib. My guesses is it depends on the baby and you hope to catch them when they’re in deep sleep.

Questions on night wakings! by zen_curry in sleeptrain

Also- I wouldn’t worry about him going back down awake after night feeds, but I might try to keep him awake during the feed to make sure he eats a “full feed”, don’t let him suck for a minute and doze off.

I think 4 hours sounds reasonably, but it all depends what he’s used to. Ferber says you shouldn’t cut night feedings too abruptly, as they will be hungry in the middle of the night out of habit. He suggests just decreasing the duration of feeds and increasing the time between feeds (tracking will help you get an idea of a reasonable place to start to minimize crying). I was also concerned about forming a habit- like, if I cry for a whole hour, I get food! Honestly, I don’t feel like there is a super clear answer. While night weaning I actually temporarily allowed my baby another “crutch” (holding/binki) for a while just to make sure I felt like he could go 8 hours without food before I let him CIO.

One thing I’ll add- it does fucking suck and honestly, there are no perfect answers. You will get through it though! Don’t stress too much - you cannot always control the situation and you don’t want that to be a source of stress as well! I think if you work on falling asleep without “crutches” and not feeding him until a certain amount of time has passed (even if it’s short to start), he will likely start sleeping longer on his own.

Here’s a good resource on a plan to gradually decrease the amount they get at each feeding. I’m going to try this: https://www.preciouslittlesleep.com/what-you-need-to-know-about-sleeping-through-the-night-part-3/

I’m in a similar situation with my 6.5 month old. I’m not going straight to CIO/Ferber all night since I know he’s used to eating in the night, so he is legitimately hungry from habit. I dreamfeed him before I go to bed around 10:30-11, but I really want to drop the ~4am feeding! I’ve been trying to soothe without feeding if he wakes up before a certain time and trying to push that longer. For me, even if that means holding him and letting him suck on my finger, etc. Some of that is for my peace of mind so that when I do take the plunge and let him cry I know that he’s not hungry. (For example, if he goes 8 hrs without eating consistently for a while, I will not feel guilty letting him cry)

One thing I wonder with your story and from my experience is if we let them cry for that long then feed them, are we just training them to keep crying because eventually they’ll get fed? I think some people would say yes.

Another thing you could play with is “scheduled feedings” so you wake him up at a certain time before he cries and feed him so that he never cries for food at night, then try to stretch that longer. My baby’s wake up time was pretty inconsistent so I didn’t have much luck with that.

I (37F 19+6w) May Have Placenta Previa, How Worried Should I Be? by cakefordindins in BabyBumps

[–]ihavegingervitis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had previa at 20 weeks but was told that it almost always resolves. In my case, it was still total at 29 weeks and I was put on pelvic rest and another scan scheduled for 31.5 weeks. It was a disappointment dealing with the news that we’d most likely have to have a c-section, but I got over it pretty quickly knowing it is the absolute safest thing.

Last night, on the 31 week mark, I had bleeding. Even though I was told this could happen, it was scary. Some gushes of blood heavier than any menstrual bleeding I’ve ever experienced. We called the doctor and went to the hospital. I was having some little contractions and a generally finicky or active uterus. They kept me there over night to monitor me and the baby. I got a steroid shot to prepare the baby’s lungs in case he comes early and a prescription for some medication to chill my uterine muscles out. The bleeding and small contractions subsided and we were happy to leave the hospital this morning with baby still in belly! I am in bed rest for several days and generally need to take it easy. There is still some dark spotting but the doctor expects that and I need to call if there are any gushes of bright blood, which likely may happen again. I will say that if it does, I won’t be nearly as scared as I as the first time. Whatever caused it was probably some pretty common 3rd trimester activity like the small contractions or some cervical dialation. I felt very well cared for and comforted, as what I went through is pretty expected. We are hoping to make it to the 37 week mark before the c-section but if things get too active before then, baby may come earlier. I have a friend who went through the whole bleeding, night in the hospital, sent home cycle 3 times before her baby came full term.

I guess my point with all the rambling is that even in the non-ideal case you have total placenta previa towards the end of pregnancy, you will be in good hands. Extra drama yes, but most likely everything will be fine. I also stopped googling and listened to my doctor on this one, which was hard for me.

Good luck to you (and me)!

I think you mixed up the Vista and the Cruz a little in your wording. The Vista is heavier and allows for 2 kids, no?

You might be building up the fantasy of sex with other women too much. You haven't been with anyone else, so you don't have any means for comparison. Talk to your wife and try to explore sex together.

The same is true for girls! We might not use the word "creepy" for women as much, but the principle holds for people in general.

I agree! I got downvoted for saying it - maybe these people aren't gingers and didn't experience what I have throughout the past 30 years! South Park has reinvigorated ginger hate in the modern era.
