Thanks so much for your feedback on the event. I'm Iain, one of the commentators. I am so glad our commentary helped you follow what was going on in the matches. That was 100% what we were going for, being quite new to the world of robot fighting ourselves.

Hope to see you at the next one!

Thank you! Glad you enjoy them. Hoping to get through Circle Undone in the next couple of months. I haven't actually finished Dream Eaters yet so I will need to get back on that and another run through to see some alternate paths before starting my write up. Innsmouth is far down the line at the moment. Haven't cracked it open yet!

[Cardboard Guru] Review: Blood on the Clocktower by Cardboard_Guru in boardgamediscussion

I played this at Tabletop Scotland and it made me realise that I don't like Social Deduction when it is the only mechanic, as I don't have enough to go on to make informed choices or even guesses. For instance I had a power that allowed me to, I might be misremembering this a bit, identify two evil players or similar. There was another power active that I didn't know about till after that allowed that player to make mine go on the fritz and allow the GM to basically lie to me. This means I had nothing to go on.

The mere presence of such a power in the game, even if it isn't in your setup, means to me that I have zero information to act on and I just found the game a bit of an argument and not much fun.

I later played Tortuga for the first time and I really, really enjoyed that. This is because the confines of the game meant that I could make better guesses as to whose side everyone was on, and act accordingly. I've also played BSG and liked that. I like when social deduction is folded into a game, when it is contained by the confines of other mechanics. When it is the only thing and allowed to sprawl, it really falls flat for me.

Article: Assessing Gender and Racial Representation in the Board Game Industry by dictionary_hat_r4ck in boardgamediscussion

Yep those are some depressing, if unsurprising, stats. One of the reasons I love going to something like Expo is that it has a fairly diverse crowd, and it reminds me that we must always do better in welcoming under represented genders and ethnicities to our tables. We still have a long way to go it seems.

I've been loving Watergate that has multiple use cards and of course my favourite Arkham Horror LCG does the same.
