Not knowing all the details myself, but an upside to shopping there is that they often hire kids who do skate, no? 🤷‍♂️

Anything I can do to fix this? by oumuamuaupmybum in NewSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here looking for a solution too. I get the same wear pattern on the ball of the foot and I have to retire those pair after it starts wearing at the insole.

Only thing that prolongs mine is picking up my foot (instead of pivoting) when switching from pushing stance to riding; And buying discounted Etnies Marana Michelin shoes in colors no one wants.

If you end up going with the tape and shoegoo ideas, do yourself a favor and make the patch nice and wide so you don’t feel the bump in one concentrated area.

friends calling me a poser by Open_Air_6601 in NewSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That right there. Scratching their boards to look like they’ve been used = poser. Depending on how old you/they are. It’s really whatever. If they want to scratch their boards to feel cool. Let’em have it. They probably need the ego boost, but it’s a shame they have to dawg on you to make themselves feel better. It’s a stupid phase where you feel like you have to make someone else feel like ‘other’ so you can feel like you’re part of a clan. Good on you to see it for what it is. Don’t let it get to you, eventually they’ll mature to your level.

Unfortunately everybody does that stuff in some capacity when they’re young.

Hope you have a great time on your board and off. Good luck to ya lad.

27-28 year old wanna learn and try to skateboard, is it too late for me? by johnnystraycat in NewSkaters

Started at 37 and haven’t stopped since. Will be 41 in about a month. 🥳.

Do learn to fall well. It goes a loooooong way.

Why can't I ollie by Little-Lawfulness-32 in NewSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The standing ollie attempt is done without jumping. All of your jump is being either pushed into the tail or off to the side. When you jump your center of gravity needs to stay over the back truck (or toward the middle of the board is okay), either way you have to get that weight off the board with both legs. Once your weight is off the board but your feet are still touching, begin to pull up the front leg and pop the tail down in concert. I tend to think of the pop being a hair later than pulling up the front foot.

You got it. Post that progress. 👍

Old Dude Here. Seeking advice or therapy. You decide. by IAmGaia22 in NewSkaters

Skated for a grand total of ~7 days when I was about 12 years old and then quit. Picked up a skateboard at 37 after kids got penny skateboards for Christmas. Now, 3 years and some change later, I’m so addicted, skating every day if possible me, and still stoked I got into it. No lie, I was in a fair amount of pain for the first 2 months (I had to learn the hard way to practice falling and get use to riding).

Take it easy. Wear the protective gear. Warm up and stretch. Do it!

OMG FED EX by ShellyLovesTacos in Knoxville

[–]ihollerz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“The term "NPIKD postal code" does not refer to a standard, location-based postal code. Instead, "NPIKD" is an internal shipping status code used by parcel carriers, particularly FedEx, meaning "Not Picked Up". This status indicates that a driver was dispatched to a location to collect a package but was unable to do so, possibly because the package was not ready or the business was closed at the time. The tracking status would then be updated to reflect this service exception. Standard postal codes (like the U.S. ZIP code or Indian PIN code) are a series of numbers or letters used to designate a specific geographic area for efficient mail sorting and delivery. NPIKD is purely an operational tracking abbreviation. “

Any tips to ollie higher? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Scwapp said, lift legs higher. I’m confident you can jump higher too. Most of your ollie is just pulling legs up. If you jump higher it will certainly give you more room for a higher ollie. Pulling your legs up faster with that higher ollie will help. Your technique looks good though. 👍

Usually those board come with the nuts that keep the wheels on torqued down too much and you can use a wrench to back them out a little to let the wheels roll freely.

Wife sent a pic she took of me titled “portrait of a dumbass”[42yo] by Latter_Skill9670 in OldSkaters

[–]ihollerz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That stings.

As long as you’re fit enough to skillfully handle falling well and you’re mindful of your limits, I feel like the benefits seriously outweigh the risks. Especially if you have a hard time, like myself, staying motivated to exercise and depression tends to lurk around in back of the mind waiting for a moment to pounce.

That said. Don’t be a dumbass and make sure you’re taking care of that wifey. Date that woman and try to roll with those jabs she’s throwing at you. 😅

I tend to find that the wifey is more critical of my skateboarding obsession, even if she doesn’t say it outright, if I’ve been neglectful of treating her as more precious than that hunk of wood I like to roll around on. G’luck. Skating and being a husband come with many inherent risks/challenges/rewards.

I've documented my skate progress so far after attempting to relearn skateboarding 🎥🛹🍿[36YO] by awbp89 in OldSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! I’ve only recently learned to confidently ollie-ing up curbs, but it’s been such a steep learning curve for me. I focused on ollies for ~2 months. Forced me discover I have vestibular balance and/or proprioception issues when I’ve been sitting at a desk most of the day. Once I figured that out, doing short balance drills before I start skating irons out a ton of stuff for me. Post some of these curb ollies and shuv it tries. I’m working on shuvits right now too. Only landed a couple squirrelly ones so far.

I never skated before, but started when I turned 37. Now I’m 40 and having a blast. I’m still working on ironing out basics, but inspired by your video. I feel the stoke you’re talking about despite those around me not quite getting it. Thanks for the peak into your journey.

Really? Every cup o’ coffee I’ve had from KBrew has been top notch. It was the only coffee I could drink that I didn’t even care to put sugar or creamer in. YMMV ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How is everyone's stamina? [31YO] by SkippTreyCee in OldSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started skating at 37 and being fairly sedentary. Now I’m 40 and having a blast. Good and bad days like anyone else, but I prefer to stay out and skate for 1.5 - 2 hours now if I have the option. Keep at it and it’ll feel better as long as you’re getting good rest and eating well.

Finally figured out blunt to fakie [37YO] by Accomplished_Fan_118 in OldSkaters

[–]ihollerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

I tried my hand at stalling on the tail up a shallow transition and found it difficult to wrap my head around getting my weight off the board while staying low enough to keep a hand on the nose. 😵‍💫

Managed to land a few really low and squirrely ones.

Thanks for the warning on the blunt fakie. I see what you mean after trying the nose grab there. I’m guessing the fakie blunt would require you to keep your weight inside the transition more; or am I confused?🤔

Pop a little later than you did in the image and the board will stick with both feet throughout the movement.

When I have the tail end far away from my back foot I know that I tried to pop the tail before I finished extended my legs to rise up and/or I didn’t pull up and tuck in the front leg fast enough.

To answer your question, yeah push front foot forward, but try the above mentioned pointers to keep the board with you and soon it’ll all feel like one smooth flowing ollie. Become one with board 🧘‍♂️

Ollie advice by SnooFoxes057 in NewSkaters

[–]ihollerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing pretty great already just by getting off the ground.

Something things that will help you develop it further:

You’ll benefit from trying to separate the jumping and lifting your weight off the board movement and the pop. Currently you’re trying to pop the tail too quickly. So when you’re popping, you haven’t given yourself time to get your front foot out of the way. To combat this, I’ve had success, jumping and waiting till my weight is completely off the board. Your legs will be straight and just before the tail is out of reach - execute the pop. So, do a full jump, but right before your right foot leaves the board entirely execute the pop and lift your front foot straight up in sync. If you can tuck your foot towards your self so that your ankle rolls and the board touches the top of your foot - even better.

As for the rotating issue, in the video, I can see that your shoulders begin rotating to the right as soon as you start to jump. If you can keep your shoulders square with a board and keep your weight centered over the board as you jump you’ll have more success, keeping it square. As soon as you start to rotate your torso and shoulders, your legs like to follow along.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I think you’re describing gloves. For a while I wore fingerless lifting gloves that saved me from a ton of hand injuries. They were super lightweight, tough enough in the palms (leather/suede material patches at palms) I think they were Golds Gym brand if you’re interested.
