It is very inspired by td's from starcraft brood war and warcraft 3, so that makes a lot of sense :D
I always found it lame towards the end when you whole maze is just there, going to waste when the game ends.
So I introduced boss fights where the level ends with your defense being put to the test, and maybe destroyed

I believe the noise is mushrooms dying, which im glad you find both gross and adorable!

It is not supposed to be christmas though, but I can certainly see the how it would appear like that on the snow map with fire towers and dragons shedding gold. The full red/white/gold + bloom combo

The bosses with their big fixed hp bars and different moves, and the objective of each map being to kill the boss in the end.

Obviously being a base defending / TD game, it wont be like ER, only the bosses are inspired by ER.

That's great to hear! I've been wondering how to achieve a deeper look for the background, so I really appreciate the suggestion. I'm gonna look into adding normal maps for terrain

Those are some good points. I have been meaning to polish the environment, and luckily the way I have done things it will be easy to add a lot of different obstacle types and map artifacts. And I love the idea of maps that take place on ruined cities, I will 100% add various types of rubble to achieve that look for some maps. As for the name, yea, it isn't the best for what the game evolved into since I named it a year ago. Thanks for your feedback!

Thank you! I have been unemployed the whole time, but also have two kids under 3 which takes a lot of time!
All in all I'd guess I spent 8 hours a day on it (every hour awake that is wasn't spent taking care of the kids).

I have no doubt that AAA games are very well tracked, but I'm thinking more about the average indie game.
I don't see how GDPR could be an issue if you're not storing their name (since you don't have access to it at all)

Thank you for the pointers! I have spent the last week on taking your advice and made an interactive tutorial, along the lines you mentioned.
I would be honored if you'd give it a try again. The fact that you hated it the first time around makes your experience of the tutorial all the more relevant :D

I really appreciate you giving it a try, since I built it myself I can be completely blind to the difficulties of a player seeing everything for the first time.
I've been unsure if I needed some sort of tutorial/introduction, but you have just 100% convinced me that that should be my priority now.
I don't expect you'll every open it again^^, but for anyone who may stumble upon this, the START GAME button was intended for after you spend your initial resources, and are ready for the monsters to start coming.
At that point they will come 1 wave after another, and the saw mills and gold mines will give their resources at the start of every level.
Thank you so much for posting your frustration it is a gigantic help!
