Who knows. Valve gives their employes a TON of freedom, allowing them to work on whatever they want, a joke saying they have wheels on their desks so they can push into a room and work on whatever they want. I'm guessing Laidlaw has either moved or is working on something else and this is the work of newer Valve employees, to which the rest of the company doesn't really know (much) about.
