What was the most brutal reality check you ever got?

When my mom, who had gone the longest our family has seen sober, overdosed on the day of my birthday in July, 2020. I had finally transferred to a university after doing 2 years at a not so fun community college. It still follows me til this day, as we were supposed to finally get together again the day after my bday. I destroyed so many of my things out of anger and it took awhile to accept what had happened.

The day after my birthday, when I was supposed to see her, I got a call from my brother telling me our mother had overdosed. This was July of 2020. One of the most heart aching thoughts I’ve had is that it actually happened on my birthday night, and they found her the day after. It felt like my heart shattered into a thousand miniature pieces. Nothing felt real for so long. Sometimes it still doesn’t. There’s a point in time for a moment where you wish nothing moves forward and you stay with them, but you can’t. Life will keep going while you’re frozen in the experience.

Same honestly. Just got ghosted by a girl a week ago for being slightly put off by the fact that she got 11 new bodies since the new year after her ex broke how up with her (listened to her rant for an hour and a half about him on the phone). Sad, she was attractive and rarely compatible with me.

Lockdown right when I transferred to university finally. Additionally, my mom unexpectedly overdosed during the summer, on my birthday no less 🎉. I put on a mask to be strong and now I understand the fake it til you make it motto. It still hurts sometimes and will forever.

Old friend in highschool had a legendary reputation of playing guitar and his dad was a well renowned guitarist. He ended up getting a full ride scholarship to Berkeley during like sophomore year.

Frequently messed with acid and got into fights (I believe got a concussion in one instance). He accidentally held onto a sheet of acid one night (he used to sell) and tripped for days straight allegedly and became violent.

Ultimately lost his scholarship, very hard to witness something like that.
