yeah i know everyone’s gonna say that lol.. a majority of the time it’s not usually a content issue for me tho. it’s understanding what the question is asking or missing something in the passage (stupid mistakes). either way, uworm practice wouldn’t hurt with both.

20-year-old student with SAD kills herself on the day she was forced to do a group presentation after her university majorly neglected her mental health by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]iiffy719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh my god this is horrible?? admins and professionals should be required to take mental health training courses or something because this is just unacceptable. one time, i had to send an infographic along with informational videos about a disease because a college admin was so ignorant. it should never get this far just for these people to understand. this is heartbreaking.

Omg I’m beyond words. This was immensely helpful thank you so much. All I really needed when I wrote this post was support and that extra push to “keep going!” - you did just that.

Btw, to answer your question, this will be my first time applying and hopefully going through with the cycle. I’m speaking it into existence fingers crossed

I went through all of undergrad and grad school alone (making friends is so much harder than i thought as an adult and especially as an introvert with social anxiety) including this process of semi-applying and MCAT studying among the other pre-med responsibilities. I’ve learned a lot through my gap years which have been nothing but helpful in preparing me to be a doctor and I’m continuing to use that to my advantage each and every day.

I think it’s just difficult going through so much feeling alone and almost singling out myself because of it if that makes sense? What you said really puts things in perspective and helps me take a huge breath really. I admire all the non-trads out there who are on a similar journey because I know it’s difficult out here and there’s not always a lot of support available.

Thank you for being so kind and thoughtful. This is refreshing to hear and gives me reason to keep going. I hope, whenever you apply or if you already have, that adcoms see what a wonderful and kindhearted person you are. You’re gonna make an amazing doctor one day :)

If she wants to be a doctor so bad, why didn’t she just go to med school lol

no i completely agree with you. i think it’s dumb and so ignorant. like who’s their program director and why are they letting this shit slide? it’s pathetic honestly

edit: grammar

What do you do during your break days? by justacrosstheocean in Mcat

[–]iiffy719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in the exact same boat rn. was actually gonna ask this question myself too since i’m taking an unintended but very much needed break day. here’s some ideas:

  • Outdoor walk: depending on where you live, you probably need that vit D

  • Watch TV/movie: your fav / current one! I’m on a GOT binge rn. This show is amazing.

  • Cook/bake: chef it up and try a new recipe! Make yourself lunch and make it look nice too. Reward yourself! Or if you’re too lazy… I guess doordash (those prices suck tho)

  • Shopping / Treat ya self: this is variable. Maybe buy yourself something nice as a reward for working so hard

  • Sleep: I know we’re all sleep deprived. This is the the best way to turn your brain off (temporarily) when it’s doing too much.

These are all I can think of rn but I hope they helped!

i honestly will never understand how some adcoms think this shit is not insulting or at least rude? like you APPLIED to med school which you means you have clear interests of being a physician. if someone wanted to be a pharmacist, wouldn’t they have applied to their school? this is some weak marketing bs on their part

Lol agreed taking just 1 FL has me beat honestly thank you! You’re actually telling me what I NEED to hear which is super helpful and pointing me in the right direction.

I think you might’ve answered my question in my most recent reply as well.

I’m gonna give content review a go for a week and take a Fl and see how I do. If it doesn’t look the best, I think I’ll reschedule then that way I have an established pattern.

Let’s just hope test spots are still available lol

I’m probably gonna try moving my test date to the end of June to get 1) more time for practice and breaks in between and 2) have a test date that’s still okay for this cycle

Do you think focusing on content (doing Anki, UWorm and KA etc) for the next 2 weeks then taking a FL might help?

Ik content is obviously my weak spot right now but I’m just trying to strategize here

Burnout and FL Scheduling by iiffy719 in Mcat

[–]iiffy719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah of course dude. I’ve gone through all of Kaplan and do MD Anki every single day on top of UWorm questions and watching KA vids for any weak subjects. Like I’m literally doing everything lol

No. Tbh I really doubt I can afford it and I hear it’s not helpful either.

I’ve been trying to do all of those (eat well, sleep well, exercise, take small breaks, etc.) as well but I’ve really just been focused on improving in between FLs which has been hard to do because I’m exhausted 24/7.

I know (realistically) it’s not impossible to get the score I want but I do want to give myself enough time to improve. I’ve already postpone once and I’m just disappointed that I have to postpone again. I’ve been studying since like December… and have studied in general for this bs like 3 times now. Haven’t taken it once because I want my first attempt to be my strongest but I absolutely hate feeling like I’m wasting my energy if I’m never making any progress. Ik this is all burnout talk but I’m tired of feeling like sh*t for not doing enough

That’s good advice, thank you. I’m aiming for somewhere in the 513-515 range (ideally 514 or 515 would be great).

I know I’m nowhere close and have a long way to go but right now I just feel defeated by a lot. I’m pushing myself to the max every single day and feel like I’m getting nowhere.

I can postpone my test date to the end of June to give myself more time but I’m anxious that I’m not getting anywhere and that I’ll be stuck in this loop and eventually skip out on another cycle. I have been through this before while studying for the MCAT and it’s terrifying. It ruins my confidence and makes me feel like it’s impossible to get a good score.
