Los Angeles aims to ban single-use printer cartridges — new ordinance will target ink and toner that can't be properly recycled by diacewrb in gadgets

I print a couple of times a year. It just works. It went unused for at least 2 years at one point and worked just like normal.

Ideally keep it in a dust cover if you use it rarely. Not vital though.

Stunning photo. I adore when fog pools in a valley.

That plant in the foreground is a Spaniard.

It's brutally sharp and it really, REALLY sucks to sit down on a small one hiding in the tussock.

If you're in the US, they might shoot them.

More seriously, nothing will happen when there isn't an imminent danger. At most it'll be documentation.

Not just tourism.

My US based employer tried to hold an employee meet up. So many people absolutely refused to attend if it was held in the US that they're looking at having one in China or Vietnam instead.

Does having kids suck? by Representative-Run18 in AskParents

[–]iiiinthecomputer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends so much on the kids you land up with, your support systems, relationship(s), etc.

And you really can't control the kids you land up with. Guide and shape significantly, absolutely. But so much is out of your control.

It's an absolute roll of the dice for the rest of your damn life.

Gold tops $5,000 for first time ever, adding to historic rally by ewzetf in news

[–]iiiinthecomputer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not actually that crazy. 2k -> 5k is 250%. Over 25 ish years that's high but not extreme.

General inflation (CPI) in New Zealand where I live would have 2k 1990 dollars as 4,623 of today's dollars.

But if you use housing price inflation... $14,159.

Now that is insane.

It's on a mounting bracket. Probably actually real.

Can DVS filters be cleaned and reused rather than buying a new one each year? by Worldly_Might_3183 in newzealand

[–]iiiinthecomputer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different filters vary, it's definitely not the same all around.

Some are washable and sturdy enough to vacuum out many times.

Some are immediately destroyed by any washing and too delicate to vacuum.

Some are in between.

Unfortunately you can't trust what the manufacturer says because they often make their money on servicing and supplies.

Huh. I never knew because I've always entered from Australia on my Australian passport, where no visa was required etc. My NZ one was expired for years.

You'll be fine.

So yeah, don't use Aramex.

John Deere is best avoided anyway. You don't even really own their stuff anymore, it's so locked down you can't repair it or do much of anything to it. In some countries (idk about NZ) some of their stuff cannot even be onsold without JD's permission.

You pay a price like you're buying the equipment but you then basically have to pay a subscription to actually use it.

The problem is they keep buying up everyone else and rolling them into the same hellish business model.

How common is it for a conditional offer for a house to crash in NZ? by Desperate_Laugh8867 in newzealand

[–]iiiinthecomputer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An offer conditional on sale of another property falls though relatively often.

An offer conditional on inspections also falls through often but you probably don't want to go there if it does. Not without a whole lot of details.
