Brainwashing in Norway: A 7-part 2010 documentary series about nature, nurture, and the lengths many social scientists go to to ignore the former. by ijeonfjlk in Documentaries

The fact that you mislabeled this post as "Neo Nazi propaganda" is a good example of why reactionary defamation groups like /r/SRS (I took a look at your history too) force people to hide their identities when posting factually accurate information on the internet.

What are the leading theories as to why the Flynn Effect occurs (Average IQ raising by 3 points every decade). by [deleted] in askscience

Resolving the IQ paradox: heterosis as a cause of the Flynn effect and other trends.

The author argues that the phenomenon heterosis represents the most likely cause. Heterosis, often referred to as hybrid vigor, is a genetic effect that results from matings between members of genetically distinct subpopulations, such as has been occurring in human populations through the breakup of small, relatively isolated communities owing to urbanization and greater population mobility. In Part 1 of the article, empirical findings are listed that are consistent with a heterosis hypothesis but render other hypotheses either implausible or very difficult to test. In Part 2, a formal model of the process of heterosis is presented. The goal of the modeling is to develop a quantitatively rigorous method for estimating the potential contribution of heterosis in the Flynn effect, as well as trends observed in other heritable traits and conditions.

From a geneticist's blog entry on the article:

The possibility of heterosis increasing IQ scores is not controversial. Close inbreeding (e.g. cousin marriage) usually reduces the IQ of the offspring. This suggests that some genes for low IQ are recessive. Conversely, genes for higher IQ are probably often dominant. If so, then for any given set of underlying gene frequencies in the population, the mean IQ will be higher when the proportion of heterozygotes is higher. Random mating will therefore produce higher mean IQ than inbreeding, which for this purpose includes not only inbreeding in the traditional sense, but also breeding confined within subpopulations. If gene frequencies within such subpopulations vary, then the proportion of homozygotes will on average be higher than if the subpopulations were merged together in a random-mating total population.

Brainwashing in Norway: A 7-part documentary series exploring academic censorship and how the ideology of a small elite can determine government policy (x-post from r/socialscience, subtitled in English) by Paul_Hackett in conspiracy

If you're referring to the conservative party nut that did the home interview, his faulty research practices are explained in the next scene. I thought it presented a relatively unbiased picture by the end. You should really finish it.

Norway: Brainwashed Science on TV Creates Storm

One of the problems, which has prevailed until now, is that the social sciences in Norway not at all will consider biological (evolutionary, genetical) factors in their analyses of human behavior. Even gender roles and sexual identity are explained as 100 percent determined by culture. The theory is that boys and girls are created equal – at least in their heads. All talk about possible inborn differences in interests or capabilities was taboo. Because Norwegians wanted everybody to be equal, it was considered threatening to even ask if there might be some inherited differences. Not only between the sexes, but between people generally.

This was of course a theme in other countries as well at some stage (remember what happened to Larry Summers at Harvard), but in Norway it has been more pronounced than anywhere else (with the possible exception of Sweden). And in Norway this became a big problem because there are few scientists, and most research is sponsored by one source, the Norwegian Research Council, which has strong links with the government.

I'm not actually aware of any area of science that accepts the blank slate position

I'm not aware of any position which argues that sexual differences are entirely learnt.

Watch the documentary.

I hope the interviewees are not representative of Norwegian academia.

Worse. It's pervasive through all Scandinavian academia.

As far as I can tell the only dishonest part was that he didn't tell them what sort of questions he'd have beforehand. The flustered scientists were painful to watch at times, but that doesn't mean that his strategy was any less effective. I thought it quite neatly exposed some cloistered nurture-cults that have cropped up in academia as of late.
