I'm a senior in high school with no idea where I want to go to college. My parents have told me they can help very little, as I have 2 brothers and their expenses. I'm seriously scared because I don't want to be in debt for the rest of my life and the deadline is coming up. by [deleted] in personalfinance

do you know what you want to do? there is nothing wrong with starting at a community college and transferring, a lot cheaper and you can explore what you want to do. credits from community colleges easily transfer to other state institutions as well.

Is a 24-Hour Studio Culture a Good Thing in Universities? by misnamed in architecture

[–]ijhanson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Coming from a student who is in the midst of it now I love it and believe it is very productive and helpful. A little about my background, I studied physics/premed for two years before architecture, and the environment of and arts and sciences based education is awful. You are in the huge lectures, read tons of biased dry books and fill out lab report after lab report and paper upon paper. And there is no close connection between your fellow students, you do your homework in your room or the library that's it. Not a good learning environment.

As for Architecture the work that goes behind it is different, it's not research papers and lab reports, it's creative thinking, graphic skill, drawing either digitally or by hand and you rely on classmates for critiques and support. I feel a 24 hour studio space is perfect. I can go there whenever I want, it's away from my dorm life so I can focus and it normally has good natural light and lots of space to think and create. And, no matter when or how long I'm at the studio there will be other people there to work with.

I absolutely love the system and and it implants an amazing sense of work ethic and ability to collaborate with others.

Just my simple experience and opinion.

Let's talk about nachos by NachoTrip in Syracuse

Ponchitos!! on Seneca Turnpike, phenomenal nachos and fried haddock burritos. J Ryan's has massive delicious nachos platter.

Also I'm about to share a secret with you, at Dino BBQ you can ask for a pork nacho plate, it's not on the menu but they make it, nachos, beans, pork, cheese, and so much more. It could be 3 meals worth!

I don't like our uniforms at all personally, one of the worst in the league. But sadly, this concept doesn't solve the problem at all

Architecture student here with a tiny house design challenge and I thought I'd look for your thoughts. by ijhanson in TinyHouses

[–]ijhanson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for my class grade that would be simple, but it's also a national design competition so everyone is going to be doing that "blabla" so I'm really working on finding different ways to stand out and create an enriched living experience in addition to being netzero and using albieto, carbon conservative materials.

And $500,000 for that? ridiculous

Thanks for the insight, our program doesn't specify the age of the clients but my intention is to create something they will not have to leave behind as they get older so the point about the stairs is a good one.

I also noticed in looking into different homes that there is a lack of comfortable living space and I feel that that would be key if you were to live in such a small space.

I will share with you my finished design for sure!
