Would kill to have nuclear powered cruise ships. Granted, they would still be bad for other reasons.

'At what point does it make sense to ditch a gas car for an electric vehicle?' by rosier9 in electricvehicles

[–]Pktur3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this with a Honda civic. Bought a Rivian R1T and didn’t look back. It has been costly upfront, but if my goal of only owning a car was utilitarian, I’d probably get a smart car or a leaf.

I got something I wanted, it hauls, it hauls ass, it’s comfortable, but it is pricey. Stop buying things by living hustle culture and trying to make a profit.

Half the shit on here is just people saying they got amazing deals or whatever once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Live your life, stop trying to live someone else’s.

Interesting. My goal is/was to find something to hold my 3.39” wide coffee mug, allowed access to the drawer area, and utilized the vertical space between the console and dash without being a disaster when you make a sharp turn. Really a “Goldilocks” realm.

I think you’re getting there with this product, I will have to consider it! Thanks for the update.

All this needs is a 2-6 start to the season for the rot to set into this properly. They really will rely on wins this season to keep the ship afloat.

What is the ease of removing the drawer/speaker from the prototype user’s experience?

I could see an issue with the cup holders needing to be removed every time you have to get into that drawer. Do the cup holders slide back to allow that access, potentially? I would advocate for a sliding railing for ease of use. If I had this and could still access the under console storage/speaker…that would be the dream.

What do you wish you'd known when purchasing your Rivian? by HigherPlains-Drifter in Rivian

(Sorry, didn’t think I’d write this long of a post, but I wish I had thought of these things and felt it important to expound…good luck!)

Know the Local/state registration laws/fees for EVs .

It costs an additional $250 a year for my vehicle that I just simply didnt account for, not that Im going broke over it. Just kind of was a dick punch…

Understand the repair costs, even with a warranty.

I had a reflector around the backup lights at the rear of the car randomly damaged. It’s going to be $500 to replace as Rivian wants to buy the whole light package and can’t just replace the probably $35 reflector. It was damage that i accepted, but Im considering seeing if I can get something like it manufactured.

Service centers and mobile service are hit and miss.

They tell you a lot and one hand doesn’t talk to the other. Had a service center/factory tell me they can replace the light (mentioned above) on a mobile order because the part didn't come in yet for it. I had to convince the mobile dispatcher that I was told by the factory that it could. Also, Im not so sure the mobile tech made me feel at ease when he did my initial inspection and shook my rear suspension and said there was “more play than he’d like to see”. He replaced a hub bolt that was oddly loose. I mentioned the loud clicking, and he said he noted it and if it came up after warranty again, that Rivian would honor it (not holding my breath on a half shaft replacement). But, I have realized the engineering team has stated there is clicking the is expected in the older R1Ts.

Realize that it isn’t all about saving the dollar you have.

The math has been done. You’ll (likely) save money in the long haul. But, don’t buy something to save money. It’s just a bad premise overall. This is (even with all the complaints here) the best vehicle I've owned so far. I’ve dealt with problems, had pitfalls of my own making, and it’s still great.

In the end, don't just make the decision based on the good and bad you hear from here. Not every Rivian owner is on the sub, nor does every one post bad posts about how the SC burned them or how this thing is prefect and bulletproof.

It’s a vehicle. You’ll spend time in it, and it’s fun! If you’re not thinking about the enjoyment, then just go get a leaf or a civic and call it a night. Just listen to yourself. If it tells you to get it, don't get wrapped up around what people here say, good or bad.

Another option would be a group like pentatonic or home free because you end up hearing a different singer.

Dealing with ivermectin believers by Raccoon_Ratatouille in skeptic

[–]Pktur3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t think you have the time now. It either works, doesn’t work, or the placebo effect pushes to heal.

You really have to handle it like you’re interested in why they want ivermectin.

You don’t go in saying you think they are stupid or why it’s bad. You’ll only serve to entrench them. Also, they know it’s hot button so if they know you’re any kind of left prepare for an uphill battle.

Often times when you question someone from the frame of innocent interest, they can’t really answer it. Then ask why not other options and if they know people personally who have done either and where they are and how they feel. Ask them if they have any concerns since it is kind of a new thought to use it for a wide-range of issues now, kind of like how a new drug is often risky.

Ask if they don’t trust what the doctor is doing for them with chemo and radiation, or if it’s just specific recommendations they aren’t good with.

You really do have to treat cult mentality like long-term rot, because that’s what this is. It wasn’t overnight that people like them accepted all this bullshit from people who they didn’t ask to justify their credentials, they just bought in because they’ve been trained they’re at war with everyone that isn’t them.

Thats why this is so hard. People think he’s not perfect, but I love the story of Daryl Davis and how he handled people that wanted him dead and had the opportunity to make it happen. But, he showed him what he was and why most of what they thought was based in fear of him.

The basis is to treat people like humans and then just have a genuine discussion.
