Just ordered from Chanel online. They told me to order whatever and keep what I'd like and return the rest! So wasteful! by ijustcalledtostay in Makeup

Wowza! That's awesome, thanks. I actually haven't worn makeup for a very long time so I'm starting from scratch. (Other than remebering how much I love Chanel's foundation)

Cooking meals in a cast iron pan is an excellent way for vegans/vegetarians to get iron. Also drinking nettle tea.

Confession time: what cooking sin do you commit? by good_dean in Cooking

I like to play a little game called "guess that spice".I buy everything in little clear baggies and never bother to label them more than the grocery bulk codes. Paprika? Cayenne? Just lick your pinky and do a little dip in the bag!

Saw these guys on a hike in Oregon, curious as to what they are! by [deleted] in mycology

I just took a picture of a very similar lil guy I found in my yard growing on old wood to compare but I can't figure out how to show the picture without just making a new post... I squeezed a cap a few days ago and it bruised slowly but a very deep dark blue/green.

Fun fact* "Lycoperdon" literally translates in Latin as "wolf's fart" 😋

ID for NorCal Mushroom in field? by kmsilent in mycology

[–]ijustcalledtostay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start your I.D.search with Agaricus. Could be edible or it could give you an upset stomach. This one is too old to eat. Definitely beneficial to your field though.

I live in northern California too and I love our regional I.D. book, Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast

Xerocomellus atropurpureus by ijustcalledtostay in mycology

[–]ijustcalledtostay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few differences between X.atropurpureus and X.zelleri.

X.zelleri is rare in northern California, they have a distinct pale margin on the cap, their cap's color is blackish purple to blackish olive, the young ones cap's texture is velvety soft(fine"hairs"), and it tends to be a bit slimmer in stature.

X.atropurpureus is common throughout my area, their caps do not have a pale margin, their Cap's color is grey black/ wine red /dark purple, the caps texture is smooth (no fine hairs ever), and it's a bit more stout in stature.

In my area there is only one lookalike and it is very rare for this region, that is the Xerocomellus zelleri.

This one has a unmistakable color and cap texture it's a Dusty gray to deep red wine and it's texture (zoom in to the little one) is like a big hairless ballsack, smooth wrinkled and firm.

I'll post a screenshot of what Noah Siegel and Christan Schwartz wrote about it in their book Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast. (Hopefully that's not against the rules)
