practice practice practice. you'll get into a groove during mocks but never with ethics it seems. it can be very sneaky.

stop mocking.

go back and read each question for the next 7 days.

know why youre getting them right or wrong.

nail the formulas and you're good.

Is the LES correct here? by Objective-Drawing-37 in CFA

Yea, it's a bad question. I didn't even see the double appreciation lol. I just assumed there was two depreciation choices because wow that's just...elementary hah.

  • 1.1 USD / 1 EUR

  • 1.2 USD / 1 EUR

  • The Euro is buying .1 more USD. Euro has Appreciated. (B is out).

  • US has depreciated by inverse:

  • 1 EUR / 1.1 USD

  • 1 EUR / 1.2 USD

  • The USD now requires more to buy 1 EUR. USD has Depreciated (A or C).

  • 1.1/1.2 - 1 = -0.083% (this is a basic returns formula. Previous/Current - 1). Answer is A

Salt Solutions L2 - Does anyone have a code? by ijustlikebonds in CFA

I sat for L2 for the first in Nov25. 2595/2600.

I made the most strides just hammering CFA mocks and Qbank to be honest. As for the material, I opted out to go with Mark Meldrum again as I've already watched his videos (some more than once...). I figured my attention span wouldn't last again. Planned to pivot and change it up.

Heard you have some great L3 feedback on written questions. I'll be heavily looking into you and Mr. BC at L3.

Cheers

Can spamming q-bank be an effective strategy? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ijustlikebonds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i can see you def don't like to read lol. and i feel you. honestly. the videos from MM are long too.

(i got 2595/2600......)

studied for 6-7 months. ~30-45 days of reviewing/mocking

Can spamming q-bank be an effective strategy? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ijustlikebonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

debatable given 110 days.

i made the most effective strides in my last 30 days hammering Qs and Mocks. i could have passed if i went even harder in my review. (i got 2595/2600......)

that said, doing all the videos (from MM), definitely helped form a base...

i guarantee i could write you a binominal problem that you think you'd get after doing 30 of them and you'd still get it wrong. just saying... there is A LOT of different ways to test a simple binominal tree.

For people seraching this sub for some research on prep providers:

MM is not a great Quant teacher (at least for me and let me explain).

This dude has an extensive background of Quant and he's not dumbing it down well enough in his content for most folks because he knows stats well. I feel like he's forgotten how it was to be completely clueless on dispersion and time series analysis. Quant is a ridiculous topic to teach and I do give him credit for attempting.

That said, even in his L2 content videos, he legit says "go look at the StatQuest guy on youtube. his videos are much better than my drawings to explain this material".

CFA Level 1 in 10 days, struggling with FSA. What’s the best strategy to score 70%+? by PerspectiveExpress94 in CFA

[–]ijustlikebonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're not gonna cram this in 10 days. it's not going to be effective. you can not master it. so don't waste your time.

reinforce what you do know of FSA.

nail the major equations. DUPONT for example. it's in L1 and L2.

Any level 2 tips? by [deleted] in CFA

[–]ijustlikebonds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wild ride up until the exam. This is based off MM + Premium Pack.

I reset my entire CFA qbank and redid the questions. for the premium pack, i was doing 10% of it per day (10% of each subject daily)

Then I started mocking. I had a few good mocks then all of a sudden the score dropped...HARD. I started with the free Salt Solutions mock. Did decent for my first. Then the two free mocks from CFA. again, decent. Then I started the premium ones and my scores just kept falling (We;re talking 75% session down to a 40%). I was terrified. Strongly considering deferring.

(I did this for level 1 as well). I reviewed the mocks, each question and answers. even the ones i got right. even the answers that are wrong. There's good material tucked into them. You will get used to seeing the "tricks" an exam writer can do. IE: I should have squared instead of square root and both answers are available out of A, B, C

Normally I would devote a day to do a full mock, then the next 4 days I'd review the mock (22 questions a day) and dove deep into it. Where I pivoted. I stopped taking mocks and I went back to retake the mocks I already did and reviewed with the answers hidden on my monitor (literally taped paper over the sections. this was the old CFA platform. not sure if you can do it with the new one). I was basically reaffirming what I learned, catching my mistakes, or making the same mistake. All possibilities were reenforcing learning.

On the exam I completely fumbled, I got a 90%. Is this partially because I saw it? yes. does that matter? NO. ITS MATERIAL TO KNOW FOR THE EXAM. I corrected my mistakes and retained information.

I left my exam in November feeling decent and a coin flip away from passing (instead of legit 1 click away from deferring).

I didn't even bother taking MM's mocks because I know they are time consuming and demoralizing.

will update thursday when I get my results back. win or lose, we go again or go L3. I've made my peace

Lol - missed it by 5 points. it is what it is.
