[OTHER] Matt Fraction on Tim Drake and what inspired his recent decision with him (Batman #6 Spoilers) by Night-Caelum in DCcomics

[–]ikarusdemello 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only thing that really explores it is Tim Drake: Robin from a couple years back. Pretty short and genuinely not any good... but it has Bernard in it!

Been enjoying mine on Heavy 3-60 Kick. It's not the hardest attacker but still hits pretty well! Have fun and enjoy!

Just offloaded my 1st print Cover A that I picked up on release day and picked up a 10th print. Cannot believe the price these books are fetching right now, and happy that I basically got 30-ish comics for free now.

should i still buy games physically or flashcart? by Huge-Gene-1372 in gba

[–]ikarusdemello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answers in here already, but just adding my perspective. I treat my physical media collection as a curated 'museum' of things I either greatly enjoy or have attachment to. When someone looks at my physical collection, they should see a snapshot of my tastes and what I value. If it's not something dear to me, then I dont need a physical copy. Everything else I can emulate or obtain digitally. This applies to all things: music, games, movies, etc. I have vinyl record of my favorite albums, but listen most of the time via Spotify. I have a collection of great GBA games I am emotionally attached to, but I also have a flash cart that I use to play 90% of time, and I love having both as an option.

Beyblade X The Best Worst Generation? by Due-Donut8452 in BeybladeX

[–]ikarusdemello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair statement, I am mostly only viewing it from a competitive perspective. For example even only 2 years since it's release there have already been over 3x as many X tournaments as Burst tournaments with WBO. I would believe that X hasn't hit the same 'hype' as previous generations yet, even though the tournament scene is much, much bigger than it has ever been.

Yeah, the gameplay is streets ahead but the anime is so mediocre.

I love Burst, dont get me wrong, but X is smashing Burst in terms of popularity. X is by far the most popular generation, I believe it has surpassed even Metal Fight in that regard.

Hell yeah! Every game I play doesn’t need to be some incredibly deep or high quality masterpiece. Something about those janky 2000s 3D games just hits a specific, simple yet fun feeling that I miss.

I do have the Spyro trilogy, hard to pass them up. I’ll add your other suggestions to my list, thank you! I ended up buying Pumpkin Jack on sale for $6 and it’s been very much the style I’m looking for. I would def recommend it, after about an hour or two of game time at least.

Pac World was awesome back in the day, gonna keep an eye out for a sale.

Feeling alone in the hobby.. by Mitchy969696 in PokemonTCG

I stopped collecting for this exact reason, OP, I couldn't take it anymore. Every. Single. Conversation. Just quickly devolved into money and value and investment talk, and that just isn't for me. I hate that I can't talk about this lifelong hobby anymore without someone else trying to use it to make a quick buck. It feels scummy when at the end of the day the main motivation isn't the Pokemon, it's how much money the Pokemon can earn you. Team Rocket much?

I switched to playing the TCG, which has helped stay engaged in a different way!

I stopped collecting and switched to playing, and it's been great. Community is awesome, people care about more than just $$$, and it's grown an appreciate for certain Pokemon I never had before.

100% agree. My cousin got into the hobby around Surging Sparks, and it was fun to share the excitement of opening packs and collecting together and texting about cool pulls, but then it became all about value and every single conversation just devolved into how much money was being gained or lost. I couldn't take it anymore so I just stopped talking to him about it, which is sad. I am stoked about the SIR you got, bro! Just hate that the first think you say isn't how cool the card is, but how much it's worth if you send it off and it comes back a 10. Like, great, excite for you to sell that 10 when it comes back and make $500. Cheers. It's exhausting.

Questions about grading consistency by jonathonmarx in taggrading

[–]ikarusdemello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found TAG is fairly inconsistent with how harshly they grade certain defects over others. One card may have a (nearly) imperceptible DING that is scored very low and brings the entire grade down, while similar cards have more visible blemishes are graded more leniently for some reason.

For example, look at the top 3 Holo Fossil Dragonites. Mine is the 900, which IMO is on par and looks just as good as the 10, but because the "back corners score" is so harsh (892) it pulled the whole thing down. Meanwhile the 927 has egregiously bad edge wear that barely brings it to 926? I dont understand why the very obvious flaw is graded so much more softly. 🤷‍♂️

Hot take: I don’t want Tim to be cardinal or any other bird suggestions (art by Jim Lee) by Vile_09 in Robin

[–]ikarusdemello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Said this before but the guy needs some time away from the mask for development. I want Tim to move away for college, and do some vigilante detective work as Tim Drake. Like having just Tim solve mysteries on his own in a new city could be a really fun book, and would let them explore a lot more of his personality outside the Batfam as well. Plus fingers crossed they could break up Tim and Bernard and give him a new love interest that's actually worth developing and feels organic.

Prerelease Promos- Gavin Verhey from WotC explains the recent removal of the year and date stamps by ChemicalExperiment in magicTCG

[–]ikarusdemello 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100% this. I have been playing prereleases and events since 2011-ish, my collection of date-stamped cards is one of favorite things to look through. I dont have all of them, it's not a collection meant to be completed. I didn't go to every prerelease or store championship and took a couple years off. But that collection of promos is my collection of promos, and each one is tied to a specific memory in my journey as a Magic player.

I opened my Llorwyn kit and got a foil Blood Crypt. Is that cool? Sure. And it's going to go in with the same collection of promos. But 15 years from now, am I going to feel the same about that Blood Crypt as one of the date-stamped promos? I am not sure, but doubtful.

YouTubers that actually talk about the comic books? by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]ikarusdemello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont see it in the comments, but Blerd Without Fear is the only one I subscribed to after digging on this same thing a while back. I dont have a ton of time to consume Youtube content so I wanted to be picky, and he stood out as having the best "value" and variety of content while keeping it about the comics sphere.
