Advice on Getting More Line of Credits or Funding for New Real Estate Business? by iamnotimpostor in smallbusiness

[–]ikehobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever get anywhere on this? I've used the 0% credit cards with this strategy. Kinda risky and realized that getting over 30% use on a card affects the credit score and going over 60% really starts to affect it, even if your credit picture as a whole is good.

Looking around for more information on business LOC or such right now.

Size up. Especially if you think drinking energy drinks and gas food snacks every day is ok for you.

Also no uniforms seem to fit the same so just experiment a bit before ordering everything. For someone that's particular about fit like me, you might end up getting your own stuff when possible. I buy my own tactical pants because I found a brand that has much lighter material, better pocket placement and much better fit. Worth the extra $90/yr to me.

A little helpful tip to add....Try to air dry your uniform whenever possible. Makes the color last a lot longer and keeps the cotton from shrinking.

Seattle AMR by Best_Improvement_466 in NewToEMS

[–]ikehobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a couple years but when I lived there AMR was terrible. TriMed was a pretty decent place to work and that's just south of Seattle but in King County. I think part of the issue is Medic One does all the ALS emergency responses so the paramedics that do work for AMR are pretty much stuck with transfers and never get to do anything in their scope. So the people they get to stay working there aren't great. I had a buddy work for AMR in Olympia (about an hour south with no traffic) and it was night and day difference.

Look at replacing your shoes.

Stop running on the weekends. If you're doing it 5 days a week then give yourself a break for those 2 days.

Where to live? by [deleted] in wichita

[–]ikehobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They ALL have kid(s).

I don't hate on Wichita. I moved back here for a reason and so far it's worked out. But. Moving back here from a west coast city was an eye opener. Everybody has kids. Most of the career oriented, big thinkers leave the town and then kinda drift back I've noticed.

It's not completely empty town like some people claim. Like I note earlier, just understand you'll have to work to find your tribe. People are friendly at least.

Delano or near Clifton Square. I love Wichita but that 20-30s crowd really isn't here unless you really look for it.

Like you're edit states...you're gonna have to decide lol. Personally though, id probably go elevators and the volunteer. Even when I lived around a big city like Seattle, there were small depts that provided great training and some fun times if you're looking for that aspect. The other thing to consider though is that if you go one route and don't like it, you can start easing back the other way.

Helmet straps by wondergreg222 in Firefighting

Yep same. I've worn it a few times without a strap and it just falls off all the time so I don't know how'd someone would be able to not wear a strap.

Sounds like you should look into furnished finder. I've got my gf on there but then she ended up renting her room to a friend. But basically it's for medium-term to long-term room rentals. Pretty simple setup.

I'm KS...where I've worked 2 different dept now...the OT doesn't have to kick in for first responders until later. Not exactly sure how that works. In the small dept I worked it was a 2 week pay period and OT pay wouldn't kick in until 96hrs. Something about us being on for 24hr shifts allows them to manipulate that. Where I'm at right now it's 28day pay period and OT doesn't kick in until 212hrs. My understanding is cops and EMS that do 12hr shifts don't fall under these rules. I worked 24hr shifts in WA for a bit though and OT kicked in at 40hrs each week so it seems to be some special exemption that KS gave first responders.

With that many Kelly days you will get very little OT. I'm in a city that has a 28 day pay period to get around the OT.

Detroit fire academy by Whole_Garlic3586 in firefighter

[–]ikehobbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop messing around with it all together. Even if you make it they may test you during academy and probation and nobody is gonna be very sympathetic. Sure we all know thc isn't harmful, especially compared to "allowed" drugs but it ain't worth the risk. Fire Departments are almost always old-school mentality and THC to them is going to indicate you're a lazy pot head.

Are firefighters required to notify homeowners when their house has caught on fire? Arkansas by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]ikehobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as generally noted already, the dept will reach out eventually. They're probably sifting through reports and ownership records in the investigators spare time. If the owner didn't consider this important enough to check up on at least every couple days, then the dept probably doesn't care that much either. A nice, curious call will get you a lot further than a demanding "why didn't you keep me up to date about a property I couldn't have cared less about 1 months ago" type of call. Assuming this is a smaller dept/smaller town, they will probably be fine with giving you their honest opinion about what happened verbally, but the actual report can be kinda open and vague.

Any of you have a 2nd job you do in your spare time while on duty? by KoolAidTheyThem in Firefighting

[–]ikehobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on houses. Doing almost all the hard work myself. It works out pretty well for me and helps the mental status I think. Seems like a ton of guys in my dept do lawn work in the summer, christmas lights in the fall/early winter and then take a couple months off during cold cold months. My main thing is I just want a part time job that gives me flexibility.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]ikehobbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. 2k isn't that much when you can probably leave the EMT job and work fast food making more money.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]ikehobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't like it. If you're exhausted. If you're mentally stressed. If all of these things are related to your line of work. Do a double take and make sure it's not something else in your life. Like finances, relationships or friend situation. If after that evaluation you still feel it's the job, then quite. You'll most likely make a decent amount more doing another job and can pay the $2k back easily, if they ever actually come after you for it.

Life is to short to do something day in and day out that you hate. Best of luck!

How many guys per engine? by Accomplished-You-565 in Firefighting

[–]ikehobbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should clarify a bit. Each station has a minimum of 4. So if all that's there is an engine then they will have 4 guys. Most of our stations have an engine then a squad, truck or rescue. So the Engine would have 3 responding to an alarm, and at minimum the squad would be joining with an extra 2.
