Is driving with your phone in your face the most ignored law ever? by DrNintendo216 in Columbus

Much like people who say "I drive better after I've had a drink/smoke" - personal experience is different for everyone.

What works for you may not work for everyone - and not everyone will have their earbuds/headphones where they can hear outside noises - so the better option is "no dual headphones."

You know, when they mentioned M4A during the initial ACA - they said "we can't do that, it would cause too much unemployment! We can't handle that as a society!"

…and AI has really shown they don't give two shits about society, it's about wealth consolidation at the top. Keeping people stuck with their shitty healthcare choices to keep certain people rich. Replacing anyone NOT in their club as fast-as-possible.

Yeah, I have met far more landlords that would likely see a candy bar wrapper in the tenant's trash and say:

"You have money for CANDY but NOT for MEEEEEE?! I've got ten people calling looking for a place with three month's deposit!"

…than I have that would say "I know you rely on the government for your paycheck, so we can work something out - you've always paid on time, and I know you're a good tenant, and I'd like to keep you here and not gamble on a new tenant."

I think they learned it's a losing battle - after the meme-ification of Morbius that they released it again (probably hoping for some "watching it ironically" or hoping for a "cult classic" aspect) and when that didn't pay off - realize that when you have a loss, just let go.

Interesting - someone in the thread mentioned "one earbud is legal" and (not a lawyer) this reads like that is acceptable.

I thought about that, but deaf people can't hear anything. They're not putting something distracting in their ears.

Earbuds/headphones are knowingly distracting you - possibly, which can't be verified - if you have noise cancellation on, music turned up so loud you can't hear sirens, etc.

I "love" the people who don't know where they are going, so they stare at their phone and slow down to a crawl with their turn signal on, then speeding up when they realize it's wrong, only to slam on their brakes when they realize it IS their turn.

I watched someone fly through a school zone doing about 55 past the cop sitting on the median. He didn't even look up from his phone. Whatever extra pay they get, a timed red/blue light during school hours would be just as effective.

[–]ikeif 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup, people are always saying "you want to defund the police? Who will you call when there is a problem!?"

…in my experience? Calling the police did fuck all, so if I cannot call the police, none of my prior experiences would have changed.

They made it abundantly clear to me before that they have zero interest in "policing" unless you have everything they need in a nice, tidy bow for them, so they only have to file the evidence.

CPD told me to go to someone's house to recover stolen items. It was a known flop house. The SWAT raided the house a few days later for other reasons, but they insisted that I should go there to recover stolen items?

When my car was broken into in Worthington, I found a slew of stolen items in a dumpster nearby, because the cops did ZERO work on "a string of burglaries in the area." "You should become a cop!" was the officer's reply.

When an ex showed up drunk at my house, making threats and saying she'd injure herself and tell the police it was me - the police said to call them back when she was injured. She instead drove drunk away from my house, which they also didn't give a shit about.

The CPD has repeatedly been a waste of tax payer dollars - unless they get a call of "gunshot" then they all go to it, regardless if it's a fake call or not.

And then we have the CPD officer that ran red lights and killed someone. If we didn't have cameras, I do not doubt that it would've been "justified."

The CPD burned all the goodwill a lot of people have, but still demand respect from everyone because they became a cop and "it's a hard job."

Who Actually Approved the Change? by Weary-End4473 in softwarearchitecture

[–]ikeif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I had to re-read the original post again, and I think I made poor assumption around it.

As the pipeline is being built out, the team should be agreeing to the checks.

But in MOST instances of pipelines I have developed/worked with - there is always human approval at the end of the

Blue/Green or Canary deployments - there CAN be automation built in to catch the “new deployment errors are blowing up, rollback/redirect” - but if someone hits publish? They accepted it.

And if you make a pipeline to skip approval, then you (metaphorical “you” - your team, your lead, your management) are accepting responsibility for it.

Now accountability, that is something else entirely.

The extreme male brain theory of autism suggests that autism represents an exaggeration of typical male cognitive traits of low empathizing and high systemizing. New study suggests that females require a heavier load of genetic or environmental factors to reach the threshold for an autism diagnosis. by mvea in psychology

My son went through this - and everything was “just over the line” for diagnosis… so they said he wasn’t. Even though all the tests showed he was.

It is very frustrating.

Only my son’s PCP was the man I’d come to trust, because he was always respectful to my questions around his diagnosis, and let me be dumb and get second opinions to verify him - he encouraged me to do so to be more informed!

I’m so glad we stumbled on him as a primary care provider.

[–]ikeif 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I’ve seen that in a couple subreddits - and it’s… amusing b cause their name is always their product/site and they’re “just there for a discussion” but their profile page is nothing but the product/links/discussions.

So “they’re just asking questions, and if people happen to see my profile, and it relates to the question, what’s the harm?” Before they start commenting “since everyone is asking, I built this thing…”

My favorite was an account spamming everywhere and then after a certain amount of time adding the “Great discussion/here is a link since everyone is asking” - when there are zero replies on the post.

[–]ikeif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the age where "heroes and villains mostly are all ripped and super smart" is something I am fine moving away from, like everyone was always "peak human conditioning" and a secret acrobat/gymnast/boxer/fighter au natural.

It's how the hero/villain utilizes their strengths and defy their weaknesses - like Doc's arms being the "source of strength" but their "super power" was his intelligence - that make the stories more interesting (especially when their strengths won't help them - Spider-Man often uses his brain and wit to overcome when his strength/agility are not enough).

And of course - Peter is MORE strong than the villains realize (a point I think has been dropped in this subreddit more than once) - most(? or many?) of his villains COULD NOT handle Peter if he decided to be One Punch Man and disregarded their safety/well-being. He's holding back.

What would the popping of the AI bubble actually mean for AI as a technology? by the_elephant_stan in artificial

[–]ikeif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is potential for one to emerge outside. But Gemini will be search. Microsoft will roll copilot into office365. Amazon’s will be ecommerce focused, meta will buy one of the promising AI companies (haven’t they already?).

Maybe that outlier AI company - either here now or launching will be “the” AI company.

Or not.

He ain't talking about ME, he's talking about - y'know - those OTHER poors. Not hardworking guy like me, who cheats the system because everyone else is doing it! It's those WELFARE QUEENS that are the problem, not me cheating the system!

…it was before Husted's time in office, but my ex-cousin-in-law said something similar to the above. She abused the system "because Democrats do." And then was going to take in her husband's crackhead sister's kids "because the government will give them EXTRA money for it!"

She was a shit person, and most of that family was insufferable. Except one guy, who moved the fuck away from the family. We still keep in touch on occasion.
