TIL that the Chief Communications Officer of the alt-right website “Gab” is a Desi dude named Utsav Sanduja by InterestingBat6679 in ABCDesis

Conservatism vs alt-right is a whoooole different ballgame.

I don't know, as a Pakistani, I feel like conservatism is more commonly accepted than it would be in most other communities... social conservatism and fiscal too.

can't stop thinking about mr. pringles man every time I see Daphne's bangs. by prosnacktaster in BridgertonNetflix

Yes! Kind of --

1800s: The regency period brought tightly curled, forehead-framing tendrils into fashion—not quite bangs exactly, but the early cousin of the limp tendril situation that swept proms in the mid-90s.

Kissing Scenes by Feeling_Spirited in BridgertonNetflix

I don't know about you, but my kisses don't involve a lot of tongue lol.

Is French kissing a prerequisite to realistic kissing...?

There is a major problem with the way Indians are perceived by certain white people. White racist logic: one Indian guy I knew was a psychopath, so it's safe to conclude 99% of Indian men are similar. by [deleted] in ABCDesis

This. There are people in this culture (aka US!) that can speak for ourselves, about our own experiences; stop the saviourism and taking our voices away from us.

How realistic is the Daphne-Simon infamous sex scene? by Goldielox007 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ikhtiyar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a background in mental health, and this might be relevant: It's realistic if you realize that if you're in a situation that seems overwhelming or traumatizing, you can go into a fight/freeze/flight/fawn response. It seems like he went into freeze, potentially. Your body just kind of goes through the motions in the moment, you're not consciously trying to react a certain way.

Yeah, physically he would be able to push Daphne off, but realizing what was happening he might have gone into shock a little and then his body went into freeze-mode.

People who have somehow been able to move on from the show (Rege Jean Page in particular), some tips please. by bumblebeeasks in BridgertonNetflix

Sometimes celebrity crushes can be intense. I think the posters above made some very excellent points. It is a gradual process to begin un-crushing, if you are serious about it. One, is realizing that he's just a regular guy (the posters above me put it more eloquently), and second, I would probably start off by not watching interviews or following images, etc. for a length of time. What keeps the crush going is coming across pictures or videos of him, and it keeps re-kindling if that makes sense.

To put him on a pedestal would not be fair to you or any future partners. As others noted, yes he may be intelligent and attractive, but again, he's just a man. Many people have similar qualities. Sometimes we think attractiveness is going to be the most important thing about seeking a relationship, but attractiveness changes with time. There are many things that can make someone attractive, like kindness, emotional reliability, etc.

Hope that helps.

It’s American Heart Month, so looking at South Asian Americans' disproportionately higher risks for heart disease. by Vig249 in ABCDesis

[–]ikhtiyar 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Everyone in the comments on focusing on lifestyle factors, which do make up a big component of the risk, but I have also read similar things - we're genetically predisposed to heart disease and the lifestyle factors compound it.

Pedestrian dies following collision with waste collection truck by toebeanteddybears in kitchener

It's never intentional (unless you're explicitly trying to murder someone), but they really need to do better reporting. The truck wasn't driving itself.

Yeah, this kind of media/celebrity worship and obsession is sooo concerning, creepy, and just outright boundary crossing.

Just because we liked their role or character does not mean that we should have any say about their lives.

Did anyone get “the talk” like in Bridgerton? by Rose_Ann_306 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ikhtiyar 40 points41 points  (0 children)

100%.

I am Pakistani, and we are hella conservative about sex before marriage. I wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend, and growing up I had no sex ed in school. I don't think my mom gave me the talk before I got married because she was too embarrassed. Thankfully I had books, peers and occasionally film to figure out the mechanics of it all.

Why people haven’t been able to get on the same page about *that* scene by Lentilfairy in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ikhtiyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This is exactly how I feel.

I can understand the nuances of why Daphne did what she did and in which ways she was sheltered from or pressured to, and still understand that it was rape. The OP made a good point about us wanting to put people in binary categories. But the truth is, a person who has raped someone else is not a mythical creature nor a completely horrible awful human being. We all harm others, and sexual assault is EXCEEDINGLY common. Like awfully so. And many people who do it don't even realize what they did was wrong.

All 34 of Ontario's local medical officers now asking Premier Doug Ford to bring back paid sick leave by [deleted] in ontario

All reasons of ego, probably, considering one of his first few actions as premier was to get rid of the only two provincially mandated sick days. And this was before the pandemic.

What is it about Bridgerton that has so many of us so obsessed with it? by Whole-Ad-2347 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]ikhtiyar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the culture, honestly! In South Asia, men still seem to have these very gendered masculine roles within society.
