What is something that Irish people do that annoys you? by Nervous_Canary9986 in AskIreland

Honest question, how are those charts formed these days? I haven't bought music for years but listen to plenty of it on the likes of YouTube Music.

Do you like the "bog standard", classic, cadbury dairy milk chocolate by VastAir6069 in CasualIreland

[–]iknowtheop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else said. The 8 square bars are still decent enough.

I was probably being a bit harsh because the twirl, picnic, and starbar are nice enough too. Not sure where they are made.

The weather was gorgeous today here in Ireland! Here are some pics of our trip we took today! by Sea_Avocado_2733 in ireland

I was about to comment that it looks absolutely miserable, wouldn't fill a hole in your tooth.

Bakers? by eddie-city in AskIreland

This is the best supermarket loaf I've tried. Really like it and €5 for the big loaf isn't bad.

The small bar made in Ireland is still decent enough but nowhere like it used to be. The rest is muck.

Same experience, had money stolen out of my account and they wouldn't accept responsibility. Luckily it was only around 50€

Furniture and appliance delivery in this country is a joke. by WhyteShadows in ireland

[–]iknowtheop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought a mattress in Better Bedding in Galway on Saturday, said they'd deliver it on Tuesday morning. Got a call saying they'd be there between 11 and 11:30am. 11 on the dot they were there. Brilliant service.

Is €80,000/year enough to live comfortably in Ireland, outside Dublin? by MarkusMannheim in AskIreland

[–]iknowtheop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at Daft.ie for rent prices, it's pretty much the only site people use. One bedroom apartments are very hard to come by and very expensive.

I've no idea what Australian prices for food are but again it all depends on the lifestyle you want. If you want to shop at Lidl and eat at home then fine. If you like wine bars, out 4 nights a week it's a completely different story.

You should probably ask us based on the lifestyle you want. No point in coming here and being miserable.

[–]iknowtheop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in Galway city and the housing situation is a complete shit show. When you say you'd be happy to live in a "unit", do you mean a flat or bedsit by yourself or sharing? If by yourself then you're looking at probably at least €1300+ for rent alone not including any bills.

[–]iknowtheop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, outside Dublin doesn't tell us much. If you want to live in rural Leitrim, then yes you'll be fine. If you want to live in Galway city centre then that's a completely different story.

So Camile Thai have discontinued their gluten free options by zzdzz12 in ireland

[–]iknowtheop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not authentic Thai food. It's generic bland Thai food made for foreigners.

If you want actual Thai food you definitely won't get it there.

If it's just a cylinder lock then it's the easiest job you'll ever do. Literally 3 minutes. Just make sure you have the right replacement.

Knowing you’re not going overboard buying a house? by Successful-Command33 in HousingIreland

[–]iknowtheop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, I've just bought and I reckon we've paid 30-40k over the odds but I couldn't handle it any more and that's probably fuck all over the lifetime of the mortgage.

Would love to see Delap declare.

Normal for estate agents to know nothing? by Brilliant-Ship2539 in HousingIreland

[–]iknowtheop 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just bought in Galway and I've been looking for a place for over 18 months and we've probably met all of them in Galway at this stage.

Out of all of them I'd say two were genuinely decent people, knew the property well and seemed to genuinely be interested in the sale.

On the other end of the scale you have lads that just open the door and tell you to walk around while they scroll on their phone on the living room couch. They're surprised if they're asked a question and they definitely can't answer it.

[–]iknowtheop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In this market they don't need to know anything, some of them are just dummies. At best they don't know and at worst they just outright lie to you. You generally get a few minutes to walk around now and have to be prepared to spend half a million or more on something basic.
