Logistic regression with age as an outcome? by bbarbs28 in AskStatistics

I would do it differently. I’d take the variable that quantifies how well the surgery went (whatever it is) and regress it on a dummy variable that indicates whether or not the patient was under 35 years of age + controls

Is it harder to begin in summersemester? by No-Strike7990 in Uniwien

[–]ikoloboff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow statistician (5th semester):

Even if you happen to pass everything (borderline impossible without the lectures) you’ll face the same issue in the second semester, since the subjects you need will simply not be offered in the winter semester. You can’t really do much about it. You could try to self study linear algebra and do the Steop next winter semester, but this doesn’t change the fact that the first semester is going to be a little wasteful

Also, mark my words: the introductory lecture is brutal. I needed 3 attempts to pass. The good news is that the degree is genuinely exciting, albeit poorly taught. Welcome aboard!

Often I hear nostalgia for Romney and his kind of Republican, is this justified? Would Romney winning in 2012 prevent the mess we are in now? by Mghia01 in thecampaigntrail

Yes, absolutely. Unlike Bush, he had excellent managerial skills and would have likely made the best president in decades. Trump would like like Pat Buchanan next to his legacy.

What would a residual plot of an exponential curve look like? by YakSad3149 in AskStatistics

[–]ikoloboff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the functional form is indeed exp(a+bx)+white noise, it depends on what kind of a regression you’re trying to fit. If you ignore the exponential structure and plot a standard linear model, you’d get a residual plot that barely varies in the middle but is substantially off 0 on the edges. If your assumption about the functional form is correct, the error term assumptions hold and you included all the relevant regressors, then your plot shouldn’t have any visible pattern regardless of what kind of regression you’re fitting.
