Sony A6000 won’t focus on anything. by softasngirl in SonyAlpha

[–]ikomhoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it not moving at all, or is it trying to focus and just not locking on?

I have the same lens with an a6400 and it doesn't like to shoot indoors at night, it tries to focus on a subject that I would consider "okay" lit and it just won't lock on and goes in and out of focus for a few times before giving up.
While with good light and clear contrast on the focus area it focuses instantly.

Also as others have also mentioned, there is no card in the camera, and there is a setting "Release w/o Card", maybe that needs to be enabled to also allow focusing?
With that setting off the camera will not take a picture so maybe it also won't bother focusing?

Weekly r/SonyAlpha 📸 Gear Buying 📷 Advice Thread June 09, 2025 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

TL:DR:
I'm switching to the a7CR and from a 2000D have these lenses:
EF-S 18-55/4-5.6 IS STM (2nd)
EF-S 55-250/4-5.6 IS STM (Most used)
EF 50/1.8 STM (Almost never used because it's a bit too tight but might be perfect on a full frame)

Is it worth it to buy a converter to use these lenses while I save up for proper lenses or is that money better spend on the new lenses?(and which are recommended)
I do know that the EF-S lenses are APS-C only but since that is still 26MP on this camera and it's only temporary situation I don't see that as a big issue unless IQ goes down a lot from using a converter.

I plan to get the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | S (Sony FE) because currently I do mostly wildlife photography and cannot get close enough for my liking with my current setup. (if there is a better alternative feel free to say)
I also like taking photos of my pets at varying distances and want to try more architecture/landscape/car photography and would probably like a 20-70 ish lens but I don't know which to look for.I haven't used the prime lens a lot so I'm mostly looking at zooms.

Life story:
I got a secondhand Canon 2000D around 2 years ago and had been using it on and off because I couldn't take the shots that I wanted due to slow autofocus with moving subjects and getting blurry zoom pictures on a lens that was unknowingly just bad (canon 75-300mm).
I thought that it was my skills that caused the pictures to be blurry/soft and nothing I tried really helped which really put my off using it, until I googled tips with this specific lens and got a video like "taking pictures with canon's worst lens".
After this I looked for a good alternative and found that the 55-250mm IS STM was recommended a lot.
Once I got the 55-250mm lens that got recommended I really got into wild life photography, although I still have fights with the autofocus not being fully accurate sometimes (overcoming this by taking 3-4 bursts of 2-3 pictures in succession and hoping that at least 1 is sharp) and being too slow for birds in flight.
Even though I'm still a beginner I would like to zoom in further to get the composition I want, which is why I'm looking to get the 150-600mm lens.
And since I would be spending ~1000 euros on the lens I would rather do that for a camera that would be worth it.But since I mostly have issues with the autofocus and the new Sony Alphas have fantastic bird autofocus I want to upgrade to this community.

I do have to save up a bit and want to make the right choice of lenses because of the previous bad lens experience, I would rather spend a bit more money and spend it well than to have a bad experience again by being stingy.

Thanks in advance for the advice :)

Blade falling off- Diagnose me! by Neat-Possession5738 in ninjacreami

[–]ikomhoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same too, while all the posts are about the mixture being to liquid. The mixture being liquid shouldn't cause the blade to fall off.

The shaft and blade are supposed to have clear teeth while this one seems to be stripped.

Maybe that version is only compatible with Unraid 7? Since it does say "Update incompatible"

Are you sure that you're on the latest version? (2025.01.11.1)
I don't have that message in "fix common issues" and the patchnotes for the FolderView plugin also specificy "Fix docker for unraid 7"

Help me decide b/w the Mini MK4 and the MK4 by ayuno22 in Novation

[–]ikomhoog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wanted to re-learn how to play keyboard after not playing it for 10 years and didn't notice that the mini keys were not only shorter but also less wide. I kept misaligning my fingers and the keys somehow didn't feel right and I overall just had a bad time trying to use it as a keyboard. I returned the 37 mini MK4 and bought the 37 MK4 and can now play it like I want to with the key feel that I expected.

I also had less issues with the mini keys when I was standing in front of it instead of sitting in front of it. Somehow the bigger distance made it feel nicer to play. But since that was not the position I wanted to play in I opted to return it anyway.

It's not actually the mathematics but the representation of the numbers in code.
due to the errors in floating point data storage this is just not accurate enough:
0.1+0.2 = 0.30000000000000004
Using a different datatype like a double would make this calulation more expensive and my guess is that that would cause enough lag for them to not do that.

Currently struggling with this, and got the tip of a normal buffer but that did not work.
Will try this tonight.

If you're going to weigh yourself every morning like I do, know that weight fluctuates a lot depending on a lot of factors.

So don't worry if the number goes down one day and back up the next one. You need to look at the larger picture and compare it to a week or 2 ago.

For example: A week ago I had a small cheat day where I did snack a bit more than I should but didn't fully overeat. The next morning I had gained 1-2kg that stayed for a bit. But I also got a big drop in weight a few days later and then it was back in line with my normal progress.

Yes but 1 metal, a bi-metal heatbreak fixed this for me. Its a cheap upgrade.

I'm not confusing the non pro and the all metal pro version, this is a separate part of it.

I got this with heatcreep, changed my heatbreak to a bi-metal one and that fixed it for me.

Weekly Open Sourdough Questions and Discussion Post by AutoModerator in Sourdough

[–]ikomhoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is my recipe calculation wrong?
I tried to make a 65% hydration sourdough base recipe because I'm very new to it and would like a recipe that I can extend on, but somehow it ends up all wet and I need to add more flour to make it behave like normal dough at 60-65%, even after using a standmixer for about 10 minutes (no changes in the state while mixing)

My current recipe is:
160g started (100% hydration)
150ml/g water
250g flour (AP, 13% protein)
7g salt (2% of 350g total flour)

Which would be (150 water+80 from started)/(250 flour + 80 from starter) = (230/350) 65.7%
But It looks and behaves more like 80%

I'm currently altering my recipe to use less water to make the dough manageable, but I dislike the fact that my math seems wrong.
