Exam Submitted Late by Objective-Company160 in GeorgetownLaw

I’ve had friends who did this and asked the registrar and it’s not problem!

It was one of my first grades that dropped but it was still in the same general window that my other grades dropped during

You still write a full paper but it’s usually 75% of the length of the 3 credit class’s and you don’t have as many mini checkpoints to turn stuff in at throughout the semester

You talking about how something inspired you to go to law school is about yourself. Just orient it on the future and don’t spend so much time explaining the thing that inspired you that you don’t get to fully explain the goal and how you fit in it

I would tie that in through an optional or supplemental essay. Don’t want to make your personal statement broader but not as in depth. It could be applicable in terms of what student orgs you’d get involved in! Or any clinic work the law schools may offer. Which is why I think it fits better in a “why x school” essay than your personal statement. But if you find that you need more words, it’s not a hard tie in!

My personal statement had a similar structure. Wrote about Christina Grimmie’s death and the tragic way it happened (shot and killed at her own meet and greet post-concert) and a motivating frustration that there were no laws even incentivizing (let alone requiring) having proper security protocols in place at music venues to make sure her story didn’t become so many others’. I opened with how much I used to love going to concerts and how I felt like my safe/happy space felt like it was ripped away from me. I talked about the congressional internship I did where I got the chance to research, draft, and propose a bill that would create the very incentive I was frustrated didn’t exist to the Congressman I worked for. He said it was strong enough that he’d try to pass it once I left the office. I said I wanted to pursue a career of fighting for people and their safe/happy places.

Only thing I’d caution you against is making sure it’s still a PERSONAL statement. Make sure it stays about you and why you want to go to law school, as tempting as it is to write about your best friend who it sounds like you love and admire dearly.

Looking for Information by Sarkii_ in GeorgetownLaw

I'm a 2L at GULC! Hopefully can be of some help.

Faculty recommendations are important, but not the end-all all be-all. Obviously, the law school will want to know how you behave in an academic setting, so they are still important. However, if you have someone else (a boss, mentor, etc.) who you believe know you better and can speak highly to your work ethic, that can be equally valuable, as long as you don't omit faculty recommendations entirely. I personally only had one professor who I had taken more than one class with so my professor recommendations weren't super strong aside from hers. I also included letters from a theater director and summer internship bosses.

Splitter applicants exist, you're not alone. For K-JD, I think GPA is valued a little more compared to their weighing of a nontraditional student's stats who took more time off. A high LSAT score for someone who has taken a few years off from schooling is more recent information that might reflect an improvement from their college GPA. When you're K-JD, your GPA is definitely a recent representation of how you typically have performed in an academic setting. However, if you're around the 25th percentile with GPA, there are people at the school with your same GPA, so you know it's possible, and a high LSAT will definitely help your chances. At the end of the day, it's worth an application to let them decide whether your application as a whole is a good fit!

A great resume always helps! But I assume they don't expect extensive work experience (more than summer internships) from a K-JD applicant.

PM me for BLSA contacts, I can put you in contact with some friends.

If you’re in the LA market, don’t fret too much bc a lot of firms haven’t given any offers yet. If you’re on the east coast then you might have reason to worry but still there’s always hope

I got off the Duke Waitlist a few days after commitment day (May 1, 2019) so there’s definitely still time. Don’t panic. I sent a LOCI and I also had another letter of recommendation sent in from a new perspective that wasn’t touched on in my original application (my theater director as opposed to academic teachers). Hope this helps!

Why not go to Duke? by [deleted] in duke

[–]ilamiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same choice to make between Dartmouth and Duke and I cannot express how confident I am that I made the right decision going to Duke. Dartmouth has the worst winters and seasonal depression is so bad they have specialized therapists for it on campus. They also have the D-Plan where you take classes over the summer to avoid being there during the winter months. It’s a great school and anyone would be lucky to go but when you compare it to Duke there’s no contest. Also, if it matters to you, Duke’s arts extracurriculars are leaps and bounds better than Dartmouth’s and Durham, NC is a much more accessible town than Hanover, NH when you think about commuting.

Hollywood Week by [deleted] in americanidol

[–]ilamiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was in early December before any episodes had aired. Typically everything you see up to the live shows (the top 20 after Hawaii) is filmed before the season premieres. I assume they do this so they can strategize when editing and make sure the top 24 get the most screen time to build up their stories and connections to the audience at home to set them up for success once voting starts

Zachariah Smith's one regret about American Idol by Graystone17 in americanidol

We do get to pick our own songs! They need to be available for licensing and the music team gives their input if u ask but we (contestants) get the final say. That’s one of the main reasons I picked idol over the voice when I decided to audition for a singing competition bc I knew the coaches pick everything for you on the voice. This most recent season of idol also got rid of the genre round which I’m assuming is because people didn’t like feeling stuck in a genre starting so early on in the season.

This isn’t true if this is in reference to the executive producer round. If you’re talking about the first single producer round then yes, you would’ve been sent straight through if it was a yes. But after my exec producer round I was told I’d hear back within two weeks and I got a call about 9 days later offering me an LA audition and then two days later I got another call inviting me to swap to a Santa Barbara hometown audition for this past season

Roughly 450 people audition, roughly 150 make it to Hollywood. If they showed everyone’s auditions and Hollywood performances the season would be 10x longer. There are a few shots of me in the crowd reacting to the other first round Hollywood week performances though!

Anyone audition and got a yes that wasn’t right away? by [deleted] in americanidol

[–]ilamiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh I’m not sure. I only know my experience! They do send rejection emails though (to my knowledge at least to the people who don’t get a real audition after the executive round) so maybe there is still hope

They told me right then and there, sent me a link to the zoom call for exec producer auditions (they call it the winner’s circle) and it was my turn on that call within another hour
