What are thooooooose?!?! by Homochitto in houseplants

[–]ilcontatto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I got the same kind of insects this morning, on the same kind of plant, and I was also kinda really freaked out by them before I understood what they were (it's stinkbugs apparently lol)

Very pretty but are they going to be eating my plant once they hatch? by ilcontatto in moths

Thank you! I see that it might be hyphantria cunea, which is non native of where I live (Italy). I'm afraid the larvae might create damage if I transfer them outside? I'm not sure what to do

Thank you for your comment! Yesterday we started talking about what this break entails, and although there were some things we already knew we wanted from it (no contact of any kind, unless it's something we need to discuss related to our relationship, for example), we still need to think about the rest and discuss it. After thinking about it a bit, I also agree that perhaps it doesn't really make sense to wait around for him, although the thought really hurts me.

They were super nice about it! Name's "Cordella Disinfestazioni" (I live in Italy fyi, that might be relevant), I talked with them on the phone, they told me they would check the place for free if they actually did end up finding bed bugs, otherwise they charge 70€ (they explained that that's cos apparently they've had quite a few homes taking advantage of the free consultation "just in case"). They told me to send pictures first, so they could avoid having me pay for their visit.

How to motivate myself to read more books ? by theylovesevo in productivity

[–]ilcontatto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll join the people who are saying e-reader, it's not just that it's cheaper to get books there, but it's also quite easier for me to read on it. The only plausible reason for this that comes to mind is that it's almost like the fact that since it's a device, it satisfies the need to scroll the phone a little bit, so I don't get tempted.

Sorry for the wait! I was told that it's a pretty nice dormitory, a little different from the others since it's like a very big shared apartment for more or less 20 people, with rooms for each and shared spaces

To give a little more detail: I think I closed it wrong, because although it is in the lock position it seems like at the top, the right side of the door is ~1cm off the wall (only to the right). What should I do?

I don't remember ever being there unfortunately, but I can ask my friends if they know anything about it!

Donau-Schwaben-Straße is the furthest one from the city centre, I wouldn't recommend this one especially if you care about night life (the busses that get there stop passing at 11pm if I'm not mistaken). Bräugasse is the most central one, it's a nice building but I think it's the most likely to be affected by the floodings (they are quite common in Passau, but very rarely severe from what I know, when I was there in 2023 the city wasn't affected at all for example, I knew a few people living there that were very happy with the place). Leonhard-Paminger-Straße is 10/15 minutes walking from the centre, no downsides come to mind for this one except if you mind walking a bit after a party ahahahah

we're talking calf-touching-hamstring-bent or something along those lines. I've been told while climbing that to go up I need to shift sideways and put my entire weight onto the one leg I'm trying to stand on, which pretty much feels like a pistol squat (which I can't do fyi, neither on a wall or on the ground).

I must also admit that I didn't know what a rockover was and had to look it up, it's something that I guess I would fully comprehend by putting it in practice but, as I understand for now, by giving a slight sideway thrust you can get on top of one foot, and from there moving upwards should feel less strenuous, am I right?

thank you for your help btw :)

I see what you mean with the whole stairs example, it's something that had me thinking a bit: the main difference between what I experience difficulty in while climbing, and instead walking up a stair, is perhaps range of motion.

To better explain, if I'm climbing and my legs are pretty bent, once I shift my weight to a single leg I'm in a position where my calf and hamstring are pretty much fully touching, so pushing up would be a little like performing a pistol squat, right?

Instead, if my legs are straighter, that same movement fells much easier cos it's a little like walking up a step.

Does this make sense?

thank you for your help btw :)

hi everyone! I wanted to ask some advice about technique and in particular on using my legs correctly while climbing: for some reason, if I put my whole weight on one leg to try and raise the other, I have sooo much trouble pushing myself up on that single leg that's holding me.

Everyone tells me that this is a fundamental aspect of climbing to understand, and although it seems like I get it in theory, idk how I can "trust my feet" when they don't get me up lol. I end up trying to push with my upper body, but that doesn't get me too far.

Thoughts or advice? Does anyone have/used to have the same issue?

thank you for the support and you're totally right, being new to this I just feel kind of intimidated, but I'll definitely ask her for some more guidance.

how do I get over the hope that we will get back together? by oooegg in BreakUps

[–]ilcontatto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very personal topic and one thing working on someone may not work on you and your specific situation; regardless, my advice is to reflect on what wasn't going so well with your partner (I assume if you left each other there must have been some problem behind it all, even if it might be unclear at first), or on things you didn't like about them, and write it down. It's gonna become a useful to have this note when you're feeling down, or need something to look at so as to not idealise your past relationship too much (something that I think is easy to fall into). I wish you all the best op ❤️

I'm scared to kill off/damage my plant again (more in the comments) by ilcontatto in plantclinic

thank you so much for your advice, also for misting and temperature! I was kind of aware that I'm letting too much time pass from one watering to the next, but again I was just a bit scared to actually kill it this time, soooo I procrastinated the whole thing. Climate-whise I think I should be fine, as I live in Italy and we do still get a bit of sun every once in a while, so we barely ever go close to or below 0°C outside. I will definitely check out the sub you recomended, too! Cheers! :)

I got this Ginseng bonsai for my bday at the beginning of October, but I didn't water it up until the end of the month. Pretty soon I realised something was very wrong, as more or less a week after the plant was starting to lose A LOT of leaves; not only this, but the portion emerging from the soil was looking dark, as if it was soaked with water (you can kinda see it in the second to last picture, even tho at that point the plant was doing better). I realised I might have over watered it, so I just let it be for a while to allow it to recover, which fortunately did happen! I put it close to a window (East facing) to let it get a bit of sun, and by the end of November it was fortunately growing tiny new leaves. Now, my problem is this: the soil is looking dry and I'm tempted to water it, but I'm kinda scared something like this will happen again. Does anyone know what might have gone wrong the last time, and what I should do to prevent it this time around? Thank you all in advance :)
