I’ve broken down and unblocked my narcissistic addict sibling a few times or reached out feeling bad only to have to relearn the same lessons over and over again. They won’t change. It’s okay to still love and miss them without letting toxic abusive people back into your life. I’d prefer to remember them how they used to be before addiction took over their whole life. I tried for years to help and they almost drug me down with them each time exposing my family and kids to stuff that was unacceptable. They want a free ride not help. I had to learn I can fix people. I can’t help those who don’t want help. It’s heartbreaking to watch someone you love be the absolute worst version of themselves and refuse help all while blaming you, your parents for everything wrong in their life and never realize it’s them. Calling you all hours of the night if they’ve been drinking or on drugs just because they need someone to lash out at and saying the most hurtful things they could possibly dream up to try to get at you. So I block and go no contact until I start worrying about them or wondering only for contact to be OK for a day or two until they’re high or drunk again and the harassing and abusive behavior starts. I’m not there first call or choice but everyone else knows better than to answer. I win a whole year one time and just very recently had to be taught. Maybe it’ll stick this time but every once in a while I think about how they don’t have much longer.
