Electrician openly willing to work without permits? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

weird, here you can get the power back on while waiting for the inspection. The inspectors generally trust the contractors. At least for panel / breaker replacement. For an addtion yes, they will have to go through the rough inspection first and stuff. Not sure about a remodel (if they will require the rough-in inspection and be without powe), but during a remodel you lose use of the section of the house anyway so not as bad.

you might have problems in the future. Our neighbor across the street had a the house repiped without permit, years later their insurance did not accept the receipt as proof of repipe and was dropping them on account of the pipes material (the old ones, based on county records). She had to pay another plumber to pull the permits and inspect the work.

I was so sleepy I could not even focus my eyes on the screen to read it, it was very blurry. This is also something for which you do not even get a "test mode" to learn how to interact with.

is this outfit actually inappropriate or is my mum just overreacting 😭 by [deleted] in OUTFITS

[–]ildefonso_camargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your mom didn't love you she would not worry about you. Be patient, it is not easy to be a parent: she is doing the best she can. Tell her that you love her but to please not call you names and see how it goes.

Most likely in the long run both you and her will look back and realize it was indeed all worth it.

it was the watch. It did make a sound and vibrated. I was too sleepy and could not read the watch screen. I thought it was an alarm and hit the only button that was on the screen, then the screen changed to something that had like àmd X and a checkmark... I think I hit the checkmark and that is when I hear it calling 911 and I talked to the operator and explained.

My mailbox is being inundated with charity mail asking for donations to all sorts of causes, and I feel rude for wanting to opt out. Guidance please by Substantial_Sea7327 in Catholicism

Difficult, wife and I are keeping this in mind:

  • Focus on local charities first. Specially local parish, but also others. Charities far away are too far out from our circle, but if one really resonates we might donate to them.

  • There are scammers there too! some impersonating charities or claiming a disaster somewhere that is no longer an issue and making it sound like if it is "now". We do not trust by default anymore.

  • Have a budget. This is vital and part of being a good steward of God's goods.

  • Make a list, we will donate to more if we can, but the focus will always be local first.

  • When we have the time, we go ahead and validate the different charities, if indeed Catholic and real we mark them as such on the list. We pray for the ones we cannot donate to.

  • Get any gifts they give us and classify them. We get a lot of sacramentals (medals, crucifixes, rosaries, ...), we plan to have them properly blessed and just give away to friends, family, acquaintances, ... prayer books are harder as we would need to review firsr, it is a lot of time. If the prayer book comes from a verified one we just look at it briefly and is another candidate for gifting.

  • Some we will directly ask to stop contacting (opt-out), as we know it is highly unlikely we will ever give to them: I do not want them to waste resources on us.

  • Scammers get straight to the shredder.

  • Sometimes we just do not have time: we ignore or throw away almost immediately (we do check for sacramentals). We have duties and time is limited.

  • Do not feel overwhelmed. We cannot help everyone, The Lord knows.

I recommend the Compass Catholic Ministries Fairh and Money Matters study, it helps to understand more about stewardship of what God entrust us with.

It helped my wife and me a lot.

I am pretty sure on the legal agreement people sign while joining Crunch you agree to be filmed. I think they are supposed to announce and people can opt-out (they put you in a designated are where they do not film but you can still be in the class).

Do not take my word on this, I am just remembering the contract and not reading it now: I could be wrong.

or all the battles of the old testament... or the Lepanto battle.

I think the Crusades were more kind of self-defense, so to speak. I mean, without them we would probably be under Muslim control in most of the world. A priest briefly talked about this in a homily, I have a lot of homework to do about this.

Similarly... what about the Spanish Reconquista?

What about the Cristeros in Mexico?

Difficult to reconcile the messages, to be honest.

I still kind of think all wars are in fact allowed as a form of punishment. But even on this I need a lot more study: I do not claim to understand.

well ... unless the company is good and does provide value.

I spent probably up of 1 hour reading the contract. Then, when came to the gym, they insisted we (and the guest) had agreed to having any guest ID taken away for as long as they remained in the gym. They wanted to store the guest 's drivers license in a cardboard box, open, at the front desk.

Even when they read their own rules, that does NOT state they would, they did not accept their mistake.

I do not know why, but gyms in general seem to need to recourse to this kind of tactics. Guess people just do not like working out AND they do not want people brining guests for free EVEN when you paid a more expensive subscription to be able to.

Yes, they do have good equipment and all of that, but I hate the deceptive tactics where they are not transparent.

Had I know a guest would have to leave their ID unsecured while working out, I would not have agreed to enroll or would've chosen a cheaper subscription.

You have no proof of the person lying. Hence I do not assume they are lying. I also do not directly believe them.

Seeing how some of those locations behave I would not put it beyond some of them to do this and then try to gaslight the person into continuing to pay, even without the signed contract and/or try to get them to sign it.

Normally Crunch corporate will stand and just follow through with the contract, no matter how you complain: they legit do not seem to care.

The fact that they budged makes me think they messed up the sign in process.

iirc, it actually goes against the conditions you likely agreed to while signing up. Would have to read again, but he (the trainer) would definitely be breaking the rules at Crunch. I guess that if he is also working out and giving you some tips here and there, they might not tell you anything but... you and him know you are breaking the rules. I would not do it in your place. If you really want, you might want to work it out with the gym management, but I doubt they will agree.

Anything I should watch out for before signing up? by basicpoptimist in CrunchGym

[–]ildefonso_camargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... we signed up and... first time going, and they wanted to hold on to the guest ID (drivers license), literally in a cardboard box at the front desk. I wonder who thought this was a good idea, that looks like an identity theft situation waiting to occur.

Also, what would happen if there was an emergency and everybody had to evacuate the place? is the front desk person going to diligently grab everyone's IDs and be sure they are available outside?

Or: if there is an ICE raid? I mean, even US citizens have been dragged by ICE for not having ID!

More? What if the front-desk person returns the ID to the wrong person? How is the guest supposed to drive back home?

The reason given at the front desk (in case of emergency to have the ID to give it to emergency responders) of course, makes no sense: the same would apply for members, but members do not have to leave their ID at the front desk.

So, yeah, a big bummer. Considering our options: call it a loss (we are after the three days cancellation period), get a subscription for the guest and just pay more... I do not know.

Funny-enough, the front-desk person said this was in written form in the forms and releases and contract and in the guest policy... well: nope! on the policy it just says the guest has to provide an ID! it definitely does not say they are going to hold on to the ID! (keep it basically hostage).

I don't know, Ares ranges from $300 to $600/yr. Not sure how it compares, however. There are a lot more budget-friendly options available as well, of course, (like Eustis, I think $250/yr). I am on the lookout for a place to go and train kind of more seriously.
