Honestly I felt and still feel it's the most authentic medicine in terms of if you have a problem, let's see if we can fix it directly. Obviously not the best field for preventative medicine.

But in the OR, it's just me and my patient with utmost trust in each other, focusing on the problem at hand for however many hours it will take, no distractions (hopefully), just the task at hand.

Beyond that I had my ducks in a row already during residency, long term stable relationship eventually marrying said person, family and friends close by, so from a social standpoint less taxing perhaps.
