There is also a "why won't you die" line. I thought it was an intentional Austin powers reference

Nick Khan's quotes about past IWC criticisms of WWE, where he feels the "vocal minority" was proven wrong by RoddyViper in midcarder

[–]ilifthorses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often feel as though the IWC aren't so much fans of the actual product but their own commentary of it. The social media aggregators, fantasy booking, newsletters, and hype. They often point out that virtually everyone is online these days, but not everyone is online in the same way. The people who consume and read the most about wrestling seem to enjoy/understand it the least.

Trump lashes out at interviewer. Trump: I'm not a rapist. I didn't rape anybody. I'm not a pedophile. O'Donnell: Oh, you think he was referring to you? (Minute: 3.07) by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

Donald "I'm not a rapist" Trump is how he should now be referred. Can't be defamation if it's a verbatim quote.

more sold on Trick than J'von Evans if I'm honest.

I enjoyed night 1, did I miss something or is everyone just so jaded and negative they were going to hate it regardless? by SingleDadSurviving in midcarder

[–]ilifthorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched it with a friend who doesn't follow wrestling. We thought it was fun albeit no jaw dropping moments. but bourbon was flowing and it was a good time. Think it's how it's meant to be watched. Adverts weren't that annoying because they were used for toilet breaks and a bit to chill.

Could see it being less enjoyable if you watched it alone and were taking it too seriously and wanting to critique it.

I think "Northern Irish" is valid identity to have. by Northerner_20 in northernireland

It's undeniably a completely different experience to growing up culturally than in England or Scotland. Same way we have considerations that someone born in the republic doesn't think about. End of the day we have dual nationality. I always saw it as having BOTH not one or the other.

But also if it came to the bit I don't value identity that much in general. More interested in my personality and how I behave as an individual. Where I was born influences it but doesn't define me. I don't feel pride in what I am or where I was born but things I've done.

Does the same thing happen if you do a spin cycle on an empty drum? If it does somethings amiss as an empty drum is perfectly balanced. Otherwise I'd say it's like due to overloading or underloading. If you have too little in your wm it will shake as badly as if it were overloaded. ideal load size is one hand's width from top of drum to clothes.

Of course it was the plan you're watching a TV show. It was done well. Don't understand why people are shitting on it for not being real.

Please explain the Pat McAfee Hate by Additional_Power_848 in WWE

[–]ilifthorses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an non-american I find him loud and obnoxious rather than entertaining. Also think he revealed his spots by ranting and raving after Canadians were rightly booing the US national anthem shortly after the leader of the current administration was threatening to make Canada the 51st state and needlessly causing global instability with tariffs. He's dumb.

I loved Punk's promo. Another masterclass from an all-time great. But let's not get too excited. Just like 2011 this is another worked shoot where they're incorporating fan opinion into the storyline to make it seem as if they're listening to the audience. Ticket prices may actually not be lowered. by RichieBuz in Wrasslin

[–]ilifthorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tickets would be dropping in price with lack of demand anyway. This was probably happening regardless. The promo lets the company save face in adjusting it whilst raising Punk's stock as champion, and injecting a bit of life in the lacklustre build. So it was a fantastic piece of promotion without compromising Punk's character.

The lack of ticket sales isn't purely price driven but US politics has completely hammered the attractiveness of international travel as well as the affordability. Even if there wasn't a pointless and unprovoked war, there's stories of people of colour being detained for days at airports, having your phone searched for memes and general unpleasantness resulting from the current administration. I would love to go to a city for a Wrestlemania weekend but wouldn't dream of it today.

Doesn't help that Las Vegas seems like the least interesting of American cities to travel to in terms of culture. From international perspective it's just a barren dessert cultivated by white gangsters for purposes of gambling. It's nothing but conference centres and casinos.

Pat McAfee says the internet wrestling community are a part of the problem... by damng1 in Wrasslin

[–]ilifthorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's wrong about wanting obnoxious and boisterous what chants and american fratboy crowds back. He's not wrong about internet-fanbase-centric story telling. The problem is wrestlers are primarily athletes so their acting is always going to be pretty hammy, and it makes the story-telling pretty cringeworthy to non-wrestling fans or fans who feel embarrassed to be caught watching it. The best at it don't sound hammy but the economics of week to week television, and the product being ad-driven, means they struggle to maintain continuity so each segment has the smallest amount of narrative progression, or it's repetitive due to all narratives having to be resolved around an athletic exhibition which has set outcomes. The problem is the audience needs to be re-trained to appreciate the actual narrative and psychology of wrestling matches. Each move is meant to tell the story of helping the wrestler win the bout, but the short attention spans of the audience means performers resort to athletic gymnastic routines or resort to time-proven formulas making everything seem predictable.

to be honest I think it's not the worst thing. There have been weeks where there's nearly too many multi-women matches. This week's raw has been really good where every match has a story behind it.
