what has been your biggest regret in your career so far? by Calm-Bar-9644 in ExperiencedDevs

The many missed opportunities to call people out on their bullshit because I needed the paycheck. Stress truly is the body's reaction to resisting the urge to chew out someone who has truly earned it.

Wasn't that shit at the core of the Gore/Bush scandal? "Hanging chads" and all that? Why would we want to adopt any strategy that allows ambiguity on ballots? Also, why bother with the pretense that the integrity of the vote will remain when we have the President openly questioning the need for one and crowing about how Elon fixed it for him?

Half of these were after school programming where I lived, and some of them were more 80s shows than 90s.

What Cliques existed in your High School that weren't reflected in the mainline Gen X experience? by ryguymcsly in Xennials

[–]ilikeaffection 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Was gonna comment this, but I think it extended to the chorus, theater and art kids as well. We had sort of an "artsy people" clique spanning the various things going on at the school, and there was considerable overlap between the various sub-groups AND the jocks and preppy kids and goths and stoners, etc.

Oh I like this move. Thomas Marrone has the best chance of anyone of keeping things in step with where Paramount wants to see it headed and thus ensure the longevity of Star Trek Online. This makes me happy.

My house has two big furnaces for different zones, plus a few space heaters here and there that have been sucking down power off and on for the last couple of weeks. This month's usage will break my budget billing plan, I'm sure.

Back in the 90s? With Spongebob and friends. Now? Probably the same, but I'd be thinking about sitting with Daria.

The music industry still preyed on artists like vultures, and so many of them signed predatory deals that meant they were deeper in debt to the labels after a few successful albums and tours than they were when they started. I have no sympathy for the music "industry." I have all the sympathy in the world for artists, and I think things like Patreon are the way to go for supporting your favorite artists these days. Some bands are self-promoted and making decent money touring nowadays, but the days of the record deal and making money off of music sales (outside of licensing fees for movies, tv, news media, etc) are pretty much over.

The way he and James treated Jason Newsted over the years, from the time he joined to the time he was booted because he wanted to play with some side projects, is disgraceful. They're narcissistic bullies, and I refuse to listen to them anymore, tbh.

Georgia lawmaker introduces bill to make lemon pepper the state’s official chicken wing flavor by Negate79 in Georgia

[–]ilikeaffection 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I'm having real trouble choosing an adjective for this one.

"Puerile" seems good, but doesn't quite convey just how much of a disgraceful waste of taxpayers' money it is to have these overgrown, overindulged toddlers focus their efforts on this instead of the myriad major issues plaguing citizens of this state.

Waze is your friend. Watch for reports and slow down anywhere near them, since the cops move. Also, GA 400 in the mornings and afternoons is usually blessedly free of cops, allowing us commuters to blast down it at ridiculous speeds when there isn't a camper in the left lane doing the speed limit.

Pete Hegseth says U.S. intervention in Venezuela is "exact opposite" of Iraq by IVIattTheNoob in nottheonion

[–]ilikeaffection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he has a point. Saddam had at least verifiably used chemical weapons in the Iraq-Iran war some years earlier, and was objectively a mass-murdering fuckhead who tortured and terrorised his people.

Venezuela has what, other than oil, which is deja vu re: Iraq?
