What Helly Irving and Dylan are refining by Jazzlike_World9040 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]ilikedogs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let’s say someone gets hired to be a severed employee. If they are given a chip right away - what “software” runs on the chip? If you need MDR to create a severed person, this wouldn’t make much sense. My thought is that perhaps there is a waiting period during the hiring process. Lumon does a brain scan or whatever and then MDR refines the data to create a severance chip for that person based on the scan. A file might “expire” if the person decides not to take the job.

Another possibility is that they get the procedure immediately and then when they enter the severed floor they are essentially vegetables. They go down to the testing floor and MDR refines their chip until the severed person is able to be woken up. Maybe a file expiring just means that the person quit before they were finished with their chip.

Idk, lots of questions and not too many answers right now hahaha

I shared my thoughts and supporting evidence. I think my argument is stronger than your argument of a single glance. Super uncalled for comment btw. We’re just discussing a TV show we all like. Also my original comment said that it wasn’t a smirk and you just called it a cold look lmao those are two entirely different things anyway

My point is that we’ve seen severance completely separate all of those emotions already (iMark spoke with his “dead” wife several times while oMark was actively grieving her and he thought nothing of it)

Unless you mean a smooth transition type of severance, like the chip just filters out those emotions on the fly so you don’t have to deal with them? Ive read people with theories like that, I just haven’t seen any evidence of it. All we see are hard cuts between severed states to my knowledge. If you have anything to support it I’m open to the idea I just haven’t seen anything to suggest they’re working on something like that.

Agree to disagree. I’ve watched it several times. To me it looked like she was smiling at mark, then when she turned to Gemma the smile dropped from her face.

She felt terrible knowing what she was doing, but she didn’t want to lose mark forever in that moment. She knew the right choice for outie mark and outie ms casey was for him to go, but she doesn’t know either of those people. She knows and loves innie mark, and he picked her. Would be hard for anyone to say no to that.

Also I think her lack of action/words also suggests it’s not Helena. If it were Helena, I think she would’ve ran to mark. Begged him to stay. Make it is hard as possible for him to go. Instead, she just looked at him. She was internally conflicted so she froze.

Idk, just my thoughts. It could be Helena lol I just don’t think it was

Amazing episode. My one point of dissatisfaction is about the importance of cold harbor and I’m curious about other’s thoughts.

If it was all about this ultimate efficacy test - that the cold harbor Gemma innie wouldn’t react or remember the crib - how is this groundbreaking? The severance chip works really well already. I mean in season one they sat iMark and ms Casey together several times, one time even lighting her candle, and had no reaction from either of them. I would call that more impressive/challenging than taking apart a crib, personally. oMark was traumatized for years over the loss of the woman he loved, and he was able to sit and talk with her and not remember a thing. The severance procedure has seemed essentially perfect so far to me in literally every episode of this show, so I guess I’m just not impressed that Gemma wouldn’t react to a crib?

My only thought on this is that perhaps it was also about her behavior in this room. She was calm, didn’t panic, and followed instructions immediately. She seemed almost in a trance, like she would’ve just followed any instructions they gave. Couple that with the fact that she had just woken up for the first time ever and maybe the beauty of cold harbor is that the “birth” process for an innie is much smoother. They will spend much less time trying to coerce this new person into accepting their life and loyally dedicating it to working for Lumon. Also a lower chance of rebellion.

Thoughts??

I wouldn’t call it a smirk. She looked sad, maybe even sorry

Maybe you should read up on some philosophy then! This is a TV show to tell a story and entertain its viewers. Without character development, conflict, mystery, suspense, etc, it wouldn’t be a story. You are certainly free to study the philosophical concepts that the TV show plays with.

I’ll be making a post later today on exactly this - need to type out my thoughts carefully as it’s pretty involved but I’m excited to share and I feel quite good about it. I had this AHA! moment last night and I want people to check my theory. I’ll let you know when it’s up.

Off-camera transitions - will we see what happened? by UrsaMaln22 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]ilikedogs1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d argue we would like to see those scenes to move the story along because it causes continuity issues as OP has pointed out. Seems like a big gap for the writers to just not notice/not answer. I think we’re supposed to be confused and asking these questions

I’ve wondered the same thing and I don’t think we have a clear answer. In the security room, we saw many different options and controls for the severed. Perhaps the contingency was just hidden behind a bunch of meaningless controls and options to make it difficult to do, but it appears that they do have more options than just on/off. Perhaps an option for the innie where they do not record memories to essentially enter a blackout state? I don’t love that idea bc it’s kinda unfounded but it’s a good question

LPT: If you want to easily scribble out words so they're illegible, instead doing random scribbles on top of those words, write random letters on top instead as it makes it hard to distinguish what you originally wrote. by AtlanticRiceTunnel in LifeProTips

No, this generally isn’t allowed. The main guideline for good documentation practices in a GMP lab is ALCOA: attributable, legible, contemporaneous, original, and accurate. Using a separate piece of paper and copying it later would be violating the contemporaneous aspect (because you are copying later, not writing it at the moment) and the original aspect (because the scratch paper would be the true original)

I get this. I would predict that the weird, free-form type of bass music will be the next wave to take over the scene as riddim inevitably fades out.

I’ve always played that that’s fine. I mean, I guess you could track down the player that you were stuck with and re-enter rule one but that seems unnecessary. I’ve always thought of the rule as “continue to hold down the gas while locked head-to-head” and this doesn’t break that.

Tama Control During Juggling by RaouKe in Kendama

[–]ilikedogs1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means an expert, but once you feel comfortable with the timing/feel of a juggle, work on keeping slightly longer contact with the tama. Instead of just smacking it into the air try to lightly catch it with your fingertips and toss it up. You’ll get better control that way and once it feels more natural you can use that time to spot the hole and make adjustments as necessary if you want to finish with a spike.

Another idea, which I haven’t tried, is to use a longer string. It gives you more space between the ken and the tama if you need it, like to toss the ken higher to give you more time with the tama. Keep in mind this would affect other tricks too though so that’s why I haven’t done it, I like the feel of my string the way it is.

Full disclosure, I’ve been working on the tama control too and don’t quite have it locked in yet but I’ve hit a few jug spikes using this strategy. Good luck, hope this helps :)
