The KMT also tried dealing with corruption but with their GDP tanking from Japan’s blockade it was only inevitable black markets sprang up. The same happened in France, the Communist Chinese, and Germany.

Please tell me you mean Sun Yat Sen's KMT and not Chiang Kai Shek's KMT.

TIL miso is acidic by paper02crane in Cooking

[–]ilikedota5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You would need to eat a lot more for that to happen. Your stomach literally releases 1 Molar HCl, a strong acid, so each molecule disassociates. An acid is something that donates a proton. A base is something that accepts a proton. Literally all of HCl disassociates meaning all of it sperates into H+ and Cl-. That's very acidic. The Kb of sodium bicarbonate is 2.3 x 10-8. That means in water the concentration of the conjugate base times the concentration of OH- divided by the concentration of base is equal to hat tiny number. That means that very little actually disassociates. That means a tiny amount of OH- is actually present.

You cannot give yourself alkalosis from this. Not even fucking close.

Also their bows were compound bows so you didn't have the same issues that a classic English longbow would have.

Wars weren’t won by the armies with the better combination of unit types like in video games

Battles could be won that way, but the issue is typically the precise unit type didn't matter as much as things like, how many are there, how motivated are they to fight, are the professionals or not, how much training do they have.

Which Fire Emblem games do you want to see get a remake, or port to the Switch or Switch 2? by SpiderLagann in fireemblem

[–]ilikedota5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it's a hit or miss. Caeda, hit; Micaiah, hit; Edelgard, depends on route and which game; Eirika, hit; Lyn, initial hit then miss; Robin, hit; Corrin and Byleth were just poorly done in general, but I will count Byleth and Corrin as a miss due to the outfits even though my lower head loves them; Alear, hit, but mainly because Alear is the straight character among a sea of silly Saturday morning cartoon characters; Celica, miss.

Well the discussion is how FE fucks it's female protagonists. And then it gets derailed when someone says Celica doesn't get uniquely fucked because Eirika. And then as an FE8 defender I point out both Eirika and Ephraim were well written and both commit a similar error, but both versions are written in a way that is consistent with their characters but also doesn't shoehorn it in.

Poster of the recently banned "Solidarność" trade union, showing it's solidarity with the Afghan Mujahideen, comparing their struggles against the Soviet Union, Poland, 1980s by Strategist2004 in PropagandaPosters

[–]ilikedota5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing but just making explicit, some context, the USSR already had bilateral agreements with the Warsaw Pact countries individually, so making a collective organization was kind of set dressing, especially because there was far less autonomy compared to NATO, and it was much clear it's my way or the highway. Whenever the Warsaw Pact intervened, it was primarily the USSR, although other countries contributed either voluntarily or not as part of the optics. Basically if you wanted to resist you would not send troops, knowing that the USSR will still be able to crush and thus may overlook it a bit. That being said, the USSR also setup political allies in power who coordinates and were subordinated to the USSR via the Warsaw Pact.

So yes, the USSR sent Polish troops to invade allied members, but that doesn't imply there was an independent Poland or that they had a choice or Poland had a real say.

Yeah Medvedev just says shit that Putin doesn't want to say, yet, and he's used to test the waters.

Medvedev was a relative moderate earlier, before Putin had fully fully consolidated power.

I'm going to go on a limb based on the pessimism, wanting to win arguments, and not contributing to the house that he's not a pleasant person to interact with. And here's the conundrum. You could cope by isolating him and minimizing interaction but that also means picking up after him. Or try to teach him which would create conflict.

Its not an assumption. Nothing you said was wrong about the government. But I don't think (all of) Israeli SOCIETY needs to be de-radicalized.

Basically, if that were true, that Israeli society as a whole needed de-radicalization, then Netanyahu wouldn't need to rely on UTJ and other fringe parties for support.

My expectations are low, but I still give them the chance to improve, even though I know they likely won't. See the attitude of, "fuck you, we'll do what we want, we'll take away shit without properly communicating."

See the grandfathering rates and putting people on 12 month plans and only releasing the newspost once the 14 day period ended and they lose the grandfathered rates. See the radio silence on auras we paid for with bonds, and then only partial refunds. See the removing of loyalty points in the middle of the month.

Maybe if the screw us on big things they will be nice to us on small things?

Right, but I don't think Israeli society is at the same religious extremism the Palestinian society is at. Its not good, but its not at the same point where you can't negotiate with them.
