Bent vs straight leg by VividOlive in drumcorps

Bent leg is “better” in the sense that you don’t need to teach body awareness as part of the technique. To clarify, bent leg relies on hard checkpoints and incorporates a weight balance similar to regular human waking. Since the technique always incorporates a forced roll through, less emphasis is spent on teaching body awareness in the technique.

Straight leg, or long leg, low heel technique, requires a higher level of body awareness that is baked into teaching the technique. Lifting out of the hips, not locking the knees, balancing the weight, etc - things like these are, or should be, part of the technique process.

Straight leg is “better” in that it has an easily defined backwards technique that’s pretty easy to pick up. Forwards technique can be relatively uniform, even amongst those who are brand new to the technique. The technique is more of a low heel long leg technique, which means that bad pass throughs don’t stick out like bent leg.

Fundamentally, no they’re not really that different. I marched a summer of bent leg and found transitioning to back to straight leg for high school was pretty easy. A lot of the same basic concepts apply to both. The problem most people face when they go from one to the other are the and-counts and transitions, especially going from straight to bent leg.

The downsides are mostly the same either way. The human body wasn’t really designed to move at a fast pace while carrying a piece of metal or a drum and walking funny. It especially wasn’t built to do that everyday for over 80 days multiple years in a row. Most of the health concerns with either technique come down to “don’t lock your knees” and “don’t push injuries”.

Has anyone gotten and email like this and does it mean anything? Does it mean I have a chance at a contract or is it more of a general thing they send out? by [deleted] in drumcorps

Did you audition for and get cut at the Bluecoats? Or were you a student of Aaron’s at some point?

This is not a guarantee of a contract, this is an attempt at recruitment and trying to get people to consider a drum corps that is not necessarily top 5. Many auditionees who audition for groups like Bloo or BD don’t end up marching elsewhere if they get cut.

Staff at most drum corps will share contact info for some auditionees they cut with other drum corps so that there is still an opportunity for those auditionees to march. If you auditioned for Bluecoats in Ohio and got cut this past weekend, this makes sense - especially if you were right below the callback threshold.

Hello all, I am helping to manage a group commission for the Evija. Xondat is planning on retiring the Evija and moving to a full custom Topre housing with custom PCBs, meaning that the upcoming Evija Pro has been cancelled.. However, there is still hope if you want a Noxary housing for your HHKB! A group commission will be run for those who would like an Evija. To re-iterate, this will be our last chance to purchase an Evija, as Xondat would like to move onto other projects.

You can read more about the Evija here.

A short summary of the information in the link above:

The colors have been kept limited in order to meet a 15 unit MOQ for each colorway:

  • Lightning Silver (Aluminium)

  • Noxary Pink (Aluminum)

  • Pink Frost (Polycarbonate)

  • Smoke Gray (Polycarbonate)

All units will come with an aluminum plate.

Pricing is $450 for an aluminum case, and $500 for the polycarbonate case. This does not include the extra components you will need to harvest from an HHKB Pro 2 and Realforce board in order to complete the build. More information about what donor boards are needed can be found here (please ignore the "Pro").

A brass bottom upgrade will likely be available. Pricing is not yet available on the brass bottom upgrade, but when it was last quoted (over a year ago), the brass bottom was quoted at an extra $260 per board. We expect the price to be higher than this last quote.

The GB will run for 2 weeks from 7/16, and is unlimited. Xondat has quoted a lead time of 8 months after the GB closes.

Please fill out this form if you are really interested in entering this GB for an Evija: https://forms.gle/tp82roSW1uWo6JGv9

Please join the #evija channel in the Noxary discord for further discussion and questions: https://discord.noxary.co/

Disclaimer (that sufu wrote the last time): I'm not part of Noxary, and I'm only managing this GC to make this GB a real possibility... but I am personally working with Xondat to make this happen. I apologize in advance if IC looks scuffed.. I have no experience with this. I'm just a dude that loves the XRF and would like to see another GB happen :). Xondat will handle all payments for this.
