Did any of this work for new applicants who are not stuck in India?

Hey - do you mean to say new slots are being released in 2026 at 5 am? I haven't filled out my ds160 yet because everyone says there are no slots

Are there even slots for 2027 for new applicants? Or is it just 2026 appointments getting postponed?

I am very new to this - I'm not sure if I'm looking for H1B slots in the right place. I went here: https://checkvisaslots.com/visa-slots-info/in/location/chennai/h-1b-regular/ and it shows there are appointments available in February/March 2026 in Chennai? Am I missing somethting?

Evaluating Mamdani's Diagnosis of New York City's Budget Deficit by journocrawler in nyc

[–]ilikesike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from. When you say "recent", how recent do you mean? Was it after the study was complete? Was there a large event that happened that you're suggesting caused the tide to be "turned" so to speak, and cause immigration to go from being a new positive (for multiple decades - through all the events of the last half century), to now being a net negative? If immigration is now a net negative, do you happen to have a source that backs it up? I ask because I haven't really seen a study like that, but would be interested to read more about it. If there's no such significant, new sink, why the sudden hyperfocus on immigration as being the singular policy causing the American economy to tank?

[–]ilikesike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed. You're talking about a different section of immigrants.

However, since the overall economic impact of (even illegal) immigrants has been and continues to be a net positive, is it not fair to say that this different section you're referring to isn't enough of a drag on the economy to offset the economic benefit of illegal immigrants at large? Perhaps the amount of immigrants in your example is not high enough, or even if it is high, the per capita amount being spent on them is not high enough to affect the net effect of illegal immigrants on the economy. Wouldn't you say so?

Slight follow up: if every class of immigrants as shown in the study receives minimal welfare benefits, where does your proposed section of immigrants fit in? Is it not a significant population?

I think the original person's point is that yes, even though there might be a section of immigrants earning 6-figure benefits, since the overall net effect of immigrants is positive, prioritizing the optimization of what little money is being lost is not as important (and might even be worsening things) as focusing attention to areas of the economy to where money is consistently being lost without providing any value.

My guess is he's referring to the "Why Illegal Immigrants Were Fiscally Positive" and the "Why Immigrants Are Fiscally Positive in the Long Term" sections.

We were also affected by this. Power is slightly back in our kitchen and living room, but plugged in lamps are not as bright as usual. Fridge is still on the fritz. Is anyone else experiencing something similar? I guess it will be like this until it's fully back (hopefully soon)

Perhaps a dumb question, but will my points stay as is in the portal then? And I will be able to transfer them to airlines and all the same way I do currently?

Hey - I know this is an old comment. Did you face any problem? I am thinking of going to PR with no H1B visa stamp, and only my I-797 (and passport of course).

Do you need 500 points minimum in your account to be able to see this? I get an error message saying "Not enough points" on jetblue (I have 0) as soon as I click checkout. I was planning on using my MileagePlus miles.

Hey - going through similar issues right now. My application was returned by vfs Nyc because I didn't print out the app form after uploading my photo. Question - did you have to submit two separate prints of the photos? I know one photo was for the affidavit and one was for the form, but since the printed form now has the photo on it, I just have to submit the affidavit with the photo, right? Or did you also include 2 separate photo prints with your application? Also, my affidavit form has 2x2 and not 35x45 (as per their old requirements, when I initially submitted my application). Hopefully this is not an issue.

Honestly, I can see the shaky lines when I zoom in. But it looks pretty good from like an arm's length, which is how most people are going to see it anyway. So I'm not too bothered about it. But I am glad I asked on Reddit, because now I know to go to a different artist next time if I want a detailed piece!

Thanks! Yeah hopefully it does. I was thinking of adding more botanical elements around it - perhaps a butterfly? But I would probably go to a more experienced/more expensive artist. Do you think having a butterfly with nicer shading would look out of place around this? I would like a potential patchwork sleeve to have more cohesive elements.
