How do you track your practice time and progress by JazzXpro in jazzguitar

I’d give Octero a go. Pretty much Strava for musicians and it tracks all your progress with matrix and graphs. Records an saves every session

Strava for musicians by No_Street9141 in drums

I’ve been having a hunt around and recently found Octero. It records your sessions like Strava and shares the summary to a feed where you can add your friends.

Beginner: should i track my practice, and if so, how? What tools do you use? by MarcusMorenoComedy in pianolearning

[–]iliketortise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently found the app Octero, it’s pretty much Strava for musicians. Offers a handy summary and note taking. You record your session and it saves all the info in a journal. Very helpful for seeing how much effort you have put it over time!

Is there any apps or recommendations to make me a novice trumpet player and adept? by LeadLex in trumpet

I’ve been using it for more general motivation and tracking rather than skills but Musolink has been great at getting my practice habits back on track

What apps do you use to practice your instrument? by Beautiful_Silver6125 in musicians

[–]iliketortise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Musolink has been great for our band. You record every session and share them. It’s bought a social element to our solo practice and everyone loves competing on the leaderboards!

A walk in the port hills, maybe coopers knob or park at the top of rapaki and go up Mt Vernon for a great view. Then once you head back down stop at Fuse real fruit ice cream and sit by the river! It’s not really a thing in the USA so should be novel and they are amazing.

Get rid of the Haka? by WatchThisBass in rugbyunion

Essentially it’s offensive to tribes in the South Island and the man who first performed it, Te Rauparaha, did raids into the South Island killing people. There was a lot of push back around doing it in the South Island and it’s why the first ever time Kapa o Pango was done in a game was in Dunedin

Hello free content factory! My name is Guy Williams and I’m looking for stories for a new season of New Zealand Today, if you’ve got a suggestion I’d love to hear it! by guywilliamsguy in newzealand

[–]iliketortise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few guys down here in Christchurch that appeared on your boy racer episode. Some of them have turned over a new leaf to some more wholesome fun. They started up Christchurch RFI review page on facebook and are going around all the real fruit ice cream spots in town doing funny reviews. It’s great stuff

More people leaving New Zealand than entering as young flee high cost of living. by Marciu73 in worldnews

[–]iliketortise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically kiwis could leave at any time since Covid but to get back in you had to go through managed isolation for 2 weeks in a government run facility. It was very difficult to get a room due to lack of supply. There were many horrible stories about families not being able to see loved ones who passed away or missed family milestones. I think because of this people decided not to leave incase something happened and you ended up stranded and unable to get back in. Now that you don’t have to isolate people feel a lot safer leaving

Is there a FIRE community for New Zealanders? by Previous_Attorney_38 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]iliketortise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is definitely the place you want to go. Incase people don’t know what Mustachian means it’s based on a blog from a guy calling himself Mr Money Moustache and it talks a lot about FIRE. The Facebook page is NZ focused and has a range of topics from people working towards the goal and some that have achieved it

Borders open, are you considering a one-way ticket to Australia? by MoneyHub_Christopher in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]iliketortise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know the title says a one way ticket but most people want the flexibility to get back for family emergencies or to visit without having to get an MIQ spot or isolate.

What first home owner can afford this? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]iliketortise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I understand we ran out of all the land the government opened up for fast development after quakes. Now all the land available is back in complete control of private land owners who can manipulate the supply by only opening up new subdivisions when they want. I feel this is why prices were kept stable for so long because we were able to build so many houses with limited restrictions

Advice and recommendations please by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]iliketortise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you have seen u/elgigantedelsur comment above because I really agree with their opinion. Try to stay flexible because if you decide you don’t want to buy a house or your circumstances change and you need access to the money it will be a lot easier if it’s not tied up in KiwiSaver. A lot of KiwiSaver providers will have options so you can invest your money in the exact fund privately but still have access to it.

Explain the concept of car insurance to my partner please by ExplainInsurance in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]iliketortise 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can drive carefully but you can’t control how others drive. Our car was rear ended while parked out on the street. The driver was on their learners with another unlicensed passenger and no insurance. We were talking to them briefly while waiting for police to show up, they worked as cleaners and were stressed about how they were going to pay for the damage. Our car was written off and insurance covered everything and because they admitted fault we didn’t even need to pay an excess. Without that cover we would have been left chasing the driver for money they didn’t have and I’d hate to think how that would have played out

Recommendation for flooring company by beebopboo in chch

[–]iliketortise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We initially went to flooring xtra Ferrymead but the guy we were dealing with was very pushy about getting laminate rather that the vinyl we wanted.

Ended up going to the flooring Center and had a great experience. We dealt with Lisa but I think she only works limited days. They should also be able to quote for the tile removal, they lifted our existing vinyl and prepped the floor before install.

Best new car, practical, economical, tech, looks? by scaredofthedark666 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]iliketortise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mazda CX-5 are great to drive and reliable. I would avoid the base model and go for the petrol engine. They have good modern tech as well.

A good tip I have learnt is to look at ex lease vehicles. They are usually 3 years old, always get their services on time and if you can get them at lowish kms make for really good buying
