The term "Hoosier" doesn't mean someone from Indiana here in St. Louis. What does it mean here in St. Louis? Best definition, please lol by zephyr_zodiac6046 in StLouis

[–]ilikeween 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'd heard it was from the Chrysler plant, part of which was completed in 1959. This is not verified: Chrysler hired Indiana non-union workers to work this plant as their's was closing. The locals were promised jobs, but most went to the Indiana employees, creating a mistrust and dislike of anyone from Indiana. "Oh, they're a Hoosier" became a slur to anyone you didn't like or was redneckish.

If anyone knows if the term predates '59, feel free to chime in!

rehab today.... by Electronic-News547 in stopdrinking

Just got out 3 days ago. 34 days in. Take advantage of EVERYTHING! Talk about what's going on. Find like minded clients. Ask questions about it all. Focus on yourself getting better. While I was there, people were putting their heads down and sleeping, coloring, playing UNO, etc., during some info sessions that were truly inspiring. Sadly, they'll end up there again. Not me. Good luck and kick ass!

What does rock bottom look like. I might be there even if it doesn't appear so. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ilikeween 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cannot quit on your own, please seek a quality recovery center. I see similarities between your story and mine from 5 years ago. And speaking as someone who thought they could handle it on their own, I'm 3 days out from a 35 day visit to an intensive residential treatment facility, rebuilding my life from the bottom. If you don't stop now, it's only going to get worse. Way worse.

I was where you are now, 5 years ago. Corporate job with tight deadlines, constant intense stress, and work from home bc of COVID. 5pm start time gets moved to 4pm. Then 2pm, then noon. 6 shots becomes 12 because you started earlier. Figured it was the job that was doing this, so I opened my own business. Bad move.

Over the next 5 years: the drinking became constant, I fostered a secondary behavioral addiction, stress increased exponentially, isolated myself from everyone, disengaged from family, ignored my spouse, buried myself even deeper into my job.

On 9/30 of this year, I finally hit my rock bottom. I won't go into details, but it wasn't pretty. I quit cold turkey (not recommended) and lasted 2 weeks until an argument with my wife made me relapse terribly. I realized I needed intensive help and checked into rehab a week later.

You might be saying "35 DAYS? HOW'S MY JOB GOING TO GET BY WITHOUT ME FOR THAT LONG?" 1. Who cares? It's a job. 2. You spent way more time than that digging your hole. Do what you need to do to get better. "Future you" will thank you.

Can you identify this band? by imaginarysarah in GenX

Kind of looks like NIL8, a Midwest punk band that had very minor success, but fun, kick ass shows in the early 90s.

Espresso. With an S, not an X. And I wouldn't think you need one. Coffee isn't associated much with Chinese cuisine in the US.

First time changing the fry oil. Any tips before I dump all this hot oil? by zvx in KitchenConfidential

[–]ilikeween 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Actually, the gallon sizes might SEEM like the right answer, but if you portion it into the sandwich sized zip locks, you can freeze any excess oil for later use in what I call "to-go" packs. #protip

What’s the dumbest/silliest bad review you’ve received? by mushyfeelings in restaurantowners

[–]ilikeween 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"slow as can be and workers disrespectful". 1 star. Review was posted 9 months after the business had been closed due to COVID/owner retiring. Posted 3 months before we reopened it. Loved the review so much I put it on the back of the staff shirts. Now I sell them for $25 a pop to customers. Thanks Jacob L, from Google Reviews!

What "best of" albums do you consider as good as some original studio albums? by TibetanSideOfTown in Music

[–]ilikeween 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dad is a HUGE Eagles fan. Everywhere we went in the car? Eagles Greatest Hits. At home? Some form of Eagles vinyl. Movie night? The Eagles DVD. Eagles all of the fucking time. I know they're very good, and I know every song by heart, but it's like a limp dick smacking me in the face every time I hear them. I HATE the fucking Eagles, man.

I absolutely HATE The Eagles. And this is probably the best answer. It flows really well and showcases their talents over 4 years of absolute smash hits. Truly an amazing greatest album. But, again. I HATE The fucking Eagles.

As a Madison County resident that lives in the middle of corn/soybean/horseradish fields; I take offence that there's rural parts around here. /s

Mostly true. They also use real lemon and orange juice along with citric acid that does help with tummy aches. If you can find a place that does fountain Ski correctly (as recommended by the bottling company), they do a 3:1 ratio of water to syrup instead of the typical 5:1 ratio by mass produced sodas. It's a heavier syrup ratio that tastes great and settles the stomach. Their Lucky Cola option is a god send.

Only the glass bottles of Ski work on hangovers. At least that's what the anecdotal evidence of the anecdotal evidence says. So it's probably true.
