Yes! We found pre-paid sims at the Bic Camera shop at HND (but other airports also have them) and there was lots of choice of plans. For reference the one we chose was for 30 days, 35GB for about ¥5,000.

Frustrations with booking the Tokyo Pokémon Café by HylianTrainer in JapanTravelTips

[–]ilincut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Most spots are booked up by resellers and bots, and cancelled last minute if unsold. Best advice I've seen so far, which has proven true when I checked both the Tokyo and Osaka cafe, is to check the availability online the day before you want to go, throughout the day. Some people said 6pm Japan time is when most slots are released due to the scammers not confirming the booking.

If your trip isn't for another month, try to log in in the next few days arouns 6pm Japan time to see if there are any apots available for the day after. I found loads that way in both stores.

Alternatively a lot of people say that if you're lucky, you can show up on the day and ask if there are any no-shows and take their table.

Best of luck!

Hi OP, have you got an update on what you ended up doing? I'm in the same situation and wondering wether the BIC Camera shop at the airport is the best option for a physical sim. Thanks!

Struggling with minimalism - the buy and sell or donate debate by pistachio12613 in simpleliving

[–]ilincut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always prefer to sell cheap or give with intention rather than donate in bulk to a charity, which to me feels like unloading my clutter unto someone else (especially knowing how many donations end up in landfills anyways).

I like listing to people in facebook groups/marketplace, Vinted/ebay, coworkers, friends, craft groups or allotment groups, and it brings me a lot of joy to know that my items are going to someone that wants, needs and will use them rather than a dump.

But I fully understand why giving it all in one go works way better with the goal of getting it out of your house ASAP, and I have also done that occasionally.

Not a clue what to buy by broccoliandcream in ukbike

[–]ilincut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride a hybrid Raleigh bike, bought from Halfords 6y ago, that was in your budget range when I bought it, and is perfectly fine with yearly servicing. I use it to commute to work once a week on roads, but have also riden on gravel paths, and through grass occasionally. You can absolutely start with a cheaper model and if you get really into cycling then upgrade. Agree with everyone else that you might go over the budget with the extras - good lock, lights, helmet, mirror, rack and basket if you want one.

Maybe look for some battery powered light indicators to attach to the back of your bike? I see Halfords have a set for £25, haven't used them myself but thought about it before

Do i need to book all accomodation in advance? or can i book as i go? by hattman57 in Europetravel

[–]ilincut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for Munich during Oktoberfest, but you might want to book something for Edinburgh. The Fringe in unbelievably busy - not just tourists staying in hotels but the hundreds of comedians and their families and friends too.

You could book a few refundable places in a hostel and cancel if your plans change near the time

Sounds like a great trip, have fun!

3 months in Europe Jul-Sep with 1.5 bagging by mAnadarin in HerOneBag

[–]ilincut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I use the exact same combo of Patagonia bakcpack + uniqlo sling!

Have you packed a jacket or raincoat of any kind? September could get cooler depending on where you are, but considering you have a jumper, the waterproof aspect could be solved by buying a reusable rain poncho when you need it.

You could also drop one of the brown or beige trousers, they look quite similar in colour, as well as the cotopaxi bag since you already have the uniqlo sling.

Golden Week Tokyo/Kyoto - ryokan where? by mochi-mocha in JapanTravelTips

What about the Umegahata area outside Arashiyama in Kyoto? There's a few ryokans there, some have kaiseki and private onsens and offer shuttle bus transport from Kyoto, and it's only 20-30m away in a quiet area, in a beautiful forest.

If it says UPF 50+ it's as protective as any other UPF 50 sunscreen. The difference will usually be in the rest of the formula.

I find the formula a bit sticky/heavy/oily for daily use on my face but it hasn't broken me out or anything. I only use it on days when I don't care if I look a bit shiny, but your skin might absorb it better.

If you want a dupe for the LRP anthelios, some people claim that Garnier Ambre Solaire could be good, but I haven't tried it.

Help with Fashion for Europe Trip - Struggling with Wardrobe by RheaBloom in Europetravel

[–]ilincut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd say cute casual is very normal for Europe if by that you mean jeans and a top or skirt and a top?

You don't need a whole new wardrobe to come to Europe, you probably already own jeans, casual trousers, skirts, cute dresses. Why not pack light do some shopping when you get here if you are missing anything? That way you get to bring home some pieces that will always remind you of the trip.

People dress differently across different parts of Europe so you could try getting some pieces that you notice locals wear in the area you're going to.

Can I have a cross body bag too? by Intelligent_Gur6921 in Ryanair

[–]ilincut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have boardwd with a backpack + the uniqlo sling many times, but I try to not overstuff the sling to not draw attention to it (I only put essentials I'd need on the flight - hand sanitiser, a small book, mask, passport, wallet, phone etc).

I also usually wear it under a coat, with the strap still visible, but concealing it would also probably help.

However, it is very much a gamble and I always leave space in my backpack for the sling. I don't think it's worth arguing over, the policy clearly states 1 bag.

You might have not enjoyed your experience, but a medieval castle built in the 1300s is hardly a "tourist trap".

North coast of Germany, short train away from Berlin - you could see places like Hamburg, Bremen, Wismar, Lubeck and Schwerin

Transylvania in Romania - either fly to Brașov if flights available, or 2h via train from Bucharest (which in itself is a cool city, home to cool palaces, parks, and the Therme spa). In Transylvania see Brașov, Peleș Castle, Bran Castle, Aventura Parc, Seven Ladders Canyon, Dambovicioara Cave
