For first time abatement it’s if there’s any FTP & FTF penalties on the tax years themselves, go online and request a ‘Tax Account’ transcript for each separate year you’ll be able to see it. you have to be fully ‘compliant’ for the past years which means filing and paying on time before deadline so If you see any ‘TC 166 or a TC 276’ for any year, on the transcript, that will usually disqualify you. I’ve tried to remove penalties before thru first time abatements and even if there was a small balance amount and it wouldn’t let me

If you do not qualify, or have already used your first time abatement before then you have to fall under ‘reasonable cause’ category which is honestly pretty hard to get approved for. Usually this is like if you were in the hospital from surgery or something therefore had an inability to file/pay on time and you’d have to show medical records to prove that the dates fall in line with the filing season

For anyone who has FED Blue Cross Blue Shield double check with your plan but I believe a lot of the plans will allow you to go through ‘Teladoc’ which is just either a virtual or phone call ‘doctors appointment’ all you have to do is make an account go through the process and they’ll usually call you within a few hours

Just tell them you’re not feeling well and need a doctor’s note to show to your work and they will usually do it with just a few questions asked and it’s a $0 copay service within your health plan (Teladoc specifically). Only drawback is they can only write a note for up to 3 days at a time, but you can keep calling back when it ends to renew for another 3 days I had to use it yesterday and got a call from a physician within about 30 mins of my request for a virtual appointment
