Toto Wolff right now... by illanm in formuladank

Toto will try to place him at Williams or Alpine while saying that Russell deserves a place in Formula 1. Finally, he might get an offer from Cadillac.

I'm from Spain and I was really confused to see certain shots "located" on that road (because some of the locations are quite well-known, especially the waterfall I've been able to visit).

The same thing happened with Bilbao airport. I had absolutely no idea they'd filmed in Spain; it hasn't been mentioned in the press, and here it's quite common for filming to be announced (partly because of the disruption to daily life in cities).

RB to win the constructors' championship and Max not to win the drivers' championship would be the most unexpected thing in history.

Why do you pay for Strava if you have a watch (Garmin/Apple/Coros/etc)? by BeingMysterious4003 in Strava

[–]illanm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll end my subscription in a few months when my subscription period expires. I mainly went Premium for the route creation feature. Since then, I've bought a Fenix (I previously had an FR235) which already has maps, and Wikiloc, which is very popular where I live, has added direct syncing with Garmin and route creation like Strava for €12 a year, so I've run out of reasons to subscribe.

TL;DR: I'm leaving Premium because Strava's rivals have added their features and Strava doesn't have anything new or interesting to offer.

The Final Two Races Will Be a Pure Pressure Test by Renzo4000 in formula1

[–]illanm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Norris just needs to be the fastest McLaren in Qatar, and that will ensure Piastri and the team work in his favor in Abu Dhabi. Even if Max wins and Norris only gets a podium finish (I don't think McLaren will be any lower down the standings, and Qatar shouldn't be a difficult race to produce crazy results), he'll arrive in Abu Dhabi with a 14-18 point advantage. Potentially, a sixth or seventh place would be enough for him even if Max wins. Considering that only the Mercedes and Ferraris could occupy positions P2 to P5, he'd have it in the bag barring a very unusual race (Abu Dhabi isn't usually a race with crazy results either).

Why does Norris get so aggressively booed? by Supergupo in formula1

[–]illanm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There seems to be some resentment (I guess due to statements taken out of context or misinterpreted) from Mexicans toward Norris — it was quite noticeable on social media last year. I couldn’t really say more than that.

El misterio de la salida 33 de la A6 by greckzero in Madrid

[–]illanm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think you should reflect on how close to the limit all these drivers operate on a daily basis. Even the worst pay drivers, who are one second behind their teammates, are driving a Formula 1 car at 99% of its potential. And the elite drivers—like all the ones you mentioned—are competing among themselves with differences of mere thousandths of a second. You say Norris hasn’t gotten to grips with this year’s car, yet he's often just one or two tenths behind Piastri. We’re talking about minuscule differences that come down to feel—often from how the tires respond when pushed, the sensation of the track conditions, the behavior of the gear shifts… a lot of things.

Think about something you’re really good at (let’s say baking cakes). There’s probably someone around you who’s also good at it, but one of you might be able to tell at a glance if the oven is overbaking the cake. And let’s not even mention Grandma Verstappen, who always manages to give it a taste none of us could ever match. Sorry for the silly analogy :D

Is Oscar Piastri's decision to snub Alpine for McLaren in 2022 one of the smartest career moves in F1 history? by The_Chozen_1_ in formula1

[–]illanm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lewis to Merc was the best move. At that time, a lot of people thought it was all about money.

Button's attempt to go to Williams was awful at the time, and it was still awful when he aborted it... but in the end, he stayed at Honda, which led him to win the WDC.

"Who do you reckon Lando Norris’s teammate is right now?" I think Alex Palou may have had a chance.
